I'm a sucker for a good pastry and their were delicious!! Me and my bf went for a weekend to Ramsgate (live in London), I obviously googled all the cafes and bakeries beforehand, just from the pics I knew checking out this one is a must and I was not disappointed. First went in the morning, on the way home from my morning l run, I was fortunate to be staying in Airbnb 3min walk away, there was a queue outside, got overwhelmed tbh with a choice and being under pressure (as there was 5 people behind me) I just went for pain au chocolate as this is always my go to. Got home, ate it, loved it, took a shower and went again 😋 as now I knew what to expect (choice-wise) so was hoping they still have some goodies left. I got a cruffin, which is croissant and muffin hybrid. Again, it was hard to chose the flavour, they had chocolate pistachio, cinnamon, cardamom and cinnamon, raspberry and passion fruit, smores, vanilla and raspberry, and.... Something more, but I don't remember. Went for vanilla and raspberry. It was really nice. Crispy on the outside, flaky light pastry, the cruffin was stuffed with vanilla cream which was also very light and flavourful, there wasn't much raspberry flavour on it, apart from dolop of some raspberry genache and single fresh raspberry on top, but all in all, it was good. Wish I've got a couple of those tbh, the cardamom was calling my name as well, and chocolate obviously - can't go wrong with chocolate. They could be better filled, cause there wasn't much cream, but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it :) two downisdes: 1. Why are you closing so early!? I mean I wanted to go there on the first day but we arrived at 3 (they close 2:30pm😳) 2. It is not an every day treat, for me at least, as the prices are ridiculous. Big thumbs up though for very friendly and welcoming staff, and that's why 5 stars no doubt 👍🙂 dunno if ever go to Ramsgate again, but if I do, I'll definitely be...
Read moreAlways liked this place and visit whenever we’re in town but the service this morning was some of the worst I’ve experienced at any coffee shop ever.
Walked in and there was a queue to order. Me an my girlfriend waited in line and ordered coffee and pastries.
In the meantime someone joined the queue afterwards.
The barista seemed very familiar with these people (either friends or regulars) and decided to make their coffee before they’d even ordered. Making us wait extra time to receive ours despite the fact that we had ordered and payed and despite the fact that there was a queue in place… they decided to serve others first (who hadn’t even paid or ordered yet).
No recognition or apology, or excuse. Just made to wait extra time whilst he played favourites...
Read moreLovely friendly welcome. The custard tart, oh gosh it was stunning! Never tasted a tart as delicious as this, creamy, texture of a smooth cheesecake… and the treacle tart… what a treat. Wish we had one where I live. Some reviewers say bakeries like this are overpriced but you pay for for what you get and that’s great quality, well crafted pastries, tarts and savouries. I’d rather have one great bake than 10 bad ones from a cheap mass production store. Would also add that I’ve never came across rude people like one of the reviewers insinuated about Londoners.I’m a northerner , moved to London in the 80s and I’ve never met anybody rude just because they’re from London! If you’re nice to people more often than that they will be nice...
