Ship Shape Cafe Bar — Restaurant in Thanet

Really enjoyed our breakfast at this unique ‘greasy spoon’ cafe. I got the vegan feast and added hash browns. I was very happy with what we got for the price we paid. And they didn’t charge extra for plant milk in my coffee! All the breakfast components were tasty, especially the mushrooms, the service was quick and staff friendly and welcoming. This is a lovely location with lots of character. The cafe is inside an arch and is long & thin inside, so space is a little limited - not a problem at all for us as we opted to sit outside and enjoy the harbour views - but worth noting for larger groups. That said it was reasonably busy when we visited but didn’t feel claustrophobic and noise levels were ok inside, and outside there was no real noise. Despite the lovely location, this was probably the worst breakfast experience I have ever had. The bacon was overcooked and dried out like a piece of leatherette, as was the sad sausage. The tinned tomatoes were horrid and lukewarm. The bread and spread were cheap and nasty. Unfortunately the service wasn't any better. The female cook (and server) was as inviting as a wrestler waiting to floor their next opponent. She practically threw the plates down in front of me and yelled something while walking away. Nice place to have breakfast in front of the Ramsgate Marina. it opens early and has a small terrace which is very popular with dog owners. When we were there there were at least 6 other (wellbehaved) dogs sitting underneath the tables hoping some of their owners breakfast would make it magically under the table. There is a tasty selection of traditional breakfast items at reasonable prices. This place is not going to change the world, but definitely keeps it ticking over nicely.
