Pub is lovely. Garden is large and nice to sit in. Pub staff are great and if you want a place to go for a drink and some time with family/mates I'd give this 4/5 stars. They have music on regularly, too and that's always good.
Reason for 3 star review is the food. They have a food stall in the garden run by a 3rd party. They are well meaning and the food is fairly decent but they are unfortunately quite disorganised with their ordering system.
They're clearly a family business and trying their best, I would have loved to give them a rave review but, after 3 separate tries, we won't be going back (at least for the food).
First time we went there they accidentally gave our order to another table - that's ok, these things happen. But we only found out 45 mins later when we chased up our food and were told by the table they'd given it to.. who had eaten our order and then were getting their original order prioritised over ours... the kitchen/staff didn't think to tell us any of this. So we waited an hour and a half for a mixed grill, when it eventually arrived it was pretty decent.
2nd time we went they'd introduced buzzers for order collection and, whilst we still had to wait a good 45 mins for food, it all went OK and tasted good.
So we went back a 3rd time hoping for good things and, unfortunately, it was worse than the first time around. It was a busy day but not crazy (there were some empty tables in the garden and not everyone was ordering food) but after ordering kids food and stiff for the adults it became clear that the guys were struggling with the orders/timing and finding it stressful. We waited over 30 mins before 1st asking when the kids food was coming and, after an hour it became clear that they still hadn't started cooking it.. when they eventually did it only took 5 mins or so but we had some very hangry kids to deal with in the meantime. Our food took the best part of 2hrs to arrive by which time everyone wanted to have been home/gone already.
Really hope for their sake (and the pubs) that they sort out their system. It's not that hard. We won't be going...
Read moreWe had Sunday Roast at the Bulls Head. On arrival, it took 30 minutes to be offered a drink/food but I appreciate it was busy.
We had ordered our food and as it was being bought out, a lady from the kitchen who was cooking, bought out 2 plates which of course, was baking hot given it was just cooked. As it was bought to the table, the lady in a rude manor said âwhoâs having beef thenâ (given that we all ordered beef plus they had sold out of everything elseâŠ) She then slammed the plate down, over a 6 month old babyâs head, with the Yorkshire Pudding coming off the table. I confronted the woman to explain this was really rude and not needed, she expressed the plates were very hot. We then simply suggested about using a tea towel or gloves in the case of not burning herself. As she walked away, she went up to her colleagues and told them she was âgoing to smack our head inâ and to âget us out as soon as possibleâ. Pointing over to our table!!!!
This was completely unacceptable and utterly unacceptable to be hear the staff talk a paying customer in that manor.
The food was really good, the only downside with this was that they had run out of cauliflower cheese but thatâs not a huge deal The whole drama ruined the meal for us all and I can safely say I wouldnât go back.
Credit to the on shift manager at the time for apologising so often and agreeing how unprofessional it was, offering 25% off the bill. But this isnât the only review about rudeness and feel it needs to be left to get the...

For full transparacy our order was 2 x burgers 1 x chicken wings 3 x tater tots 2 x soft drinks and 1 x cocktail. Tater tots were £5 for a small portion. There was an added 12.5 % service charge on the bill that was not dicussed and did not say was discretionary on the itemisation. None of our party noticed any signage with regards to this. Service charges are by no means industry standard as being implied. Certainly not at pub barbecues or pints from the bar. We saw the (friendly and lovely) waitress twice. Of course we would have tipped her - at our own rate. £12 for a burger with no sides IS ridiculous. "All the trimmings" consisted of a slice of cheese, a slice of gerkin and relish out of a bottle. Staff are professional and welcoming. Pub is clean and stylish but we won't be back at those prices for barbecue food. Wish we'd read the reviews before popping in! We eat out regularly all over and different types of cusine - we are quite aware of current prices. If the food was super special I could understand the price. It wasn't. NOTES I've read and edited my review in response to the owners reply. Again I wish I'd read their earlier attitude to other reviewers before visiting. I am not slating this business in fact my original review was very fair so I'll let the good people of Margate and it's visitors make up their own minds....
