Really atrocious customer service - came here last night for a meal. When the waitress put my boyfriend’s drink down and walked away, the glass exploded in his hand. He was soaked, the shards of glass were in his hand and his entire iPhone was soaked. It must have been because the glass was too hot and this is totally fine and accidents happen. Both himself and myself have worked in hospitality for years and are very patient. But how the situation was handled was the issue - no one said anything when they came over to the table, no one apologised, no mention of a new drink (on the house, as it should have been). All that was said was ‘the glass must have been too hot’.
Once my boyfriend came back from the toilets trying to dry himself, he called the manager over just to make him aware that was really poorly handled - no one said or did anything and no mention of his soaking wet phone/trousers. We were not angling for a freebie we just were so shocked at everyone’s slow reaction and lack of response or apology, or even concern - had my boyfriend cut himself?
The manager proceeded to crouch down to my boyfriend's level (so they’re looking at each other face to face) to ask why he hadn't said anything at the time of the drink exploding (obviously we were in shock and just jumped up to grab the phone and not get cut by the glass). Then asked how we were going to prove his phone had been damaged. When my boyfriend pointed out he was soaking wet the manager told him to take the clothes to the dry cleaners. He was really confrontational and dismissive. We were so confused why something dangerous and unpleasant had just happened yet this manager was acting as though we were making it up (when he’d clearly seen it) and also didn’t care.
All we wanted was better customer service. The drink exploded, no one reacted - all we wanted was an apology. The manager was so confrontational and in the end we had to tell him to go away. I couldn't help but feel like he was purposely trying to rile my boyfriend by getting down on his level, face to face, and asking him how he was going to prove it.
In the end we eat our meal in silence, paid the bill (which was in FULL - including the drink that exploded everywhere - wow) and left. Really poor customer service.
I can't help but think if my boyfriend wasn't a young, black male would that reaction have been the same for another customer? There was absolutely no reason for the situation to have been treated in silence with no care for whether he’d cut his hand or the fact he was soaked, or his new phone was now covered in the drink. It’s really upsetting to come into a well-known chain and be treated like that. We felt embarrassed and uncomfortable and are not the type to just get up and leave without paying so we eat the meal and paid in full. We won’t ever be coming to a...
Read moreI had a day off with my partner today and decided to pop into wagamama for a quick bite. I'm so glad we did. Firstly, the menu is 50% plant based. There is literally a vegan dish available for every meat dish, and you can really taste how much work has gone into making each dish mimic its meat counterpart.
For starters, I got the vegan chilli 'squid' (lightly battered pulled king oyster mushrooms. shichimi. sticky dipping sauce with fresh chilli+ coriander) now one of the things I really miss since becoming vegan (nearly three years ago) is fish but this dish totally has the same tough, chewy feel of squid. The batter is lovely and light and no sign of excess oil, just beautifully crisp. My partner got the sticky vegan 'ribs' (mushroom + soya protein ‘ribs’. sweet + spicy sticky sauce. sesame seeds. spring onion) and again the dish has the chewy, tender meat feel to it and the marinade was delicately rich, not over powering at all or sickly.
For the main, I got no duck donburi (shredded seitan + shiitake mushrooms in a cherry hoisin sauce. edamame beans. kimchee. coconut + sriracha vegan ‘egg’ made in collaboration with gaz oakley. cucumber. spring onion. chillies. coriander. sesame seeds. Brown rice). It is a full-on dish, and everything gels together so well, just the right portion of each, so nothing over powers the other. Even the vegan egg was surprisingly good and very clever, just a bit on the soft side, but that's forgiven as it is made from coconut. My partner got the teriyaki vegan 'chicken’ ramen (seasoned soya protein in a spicy teriyaki sauce. udon noodles. sweetcorn. bok choi. chilli sambal paste. spring onion. chilli. coriander. chilli oil. vegetable broth) the soya protein tasted rich but a bit chewy, almost like pork. My partner enjoyed every part of this dish apart from the udon noodles, which there was a lot of.
For dessert, I got the banana katsu (banana in crispy panko breadcrumbs. miso caramel ice cream. Toffee sauce) absolutely divine, you must try! My partner had the chocolate orange cake (flourless chocolate orange cake. Miso caramel ice cream) reluctantly shared a bit with me and said he could eat another, so that pretty speaks for itself, lol.
For drinks we ordered the ginger 'no-jito' really fresh and spicy and helped cleanse the pallet after each dish and of course we got the mandatory glass of water.
The service was ace and super friendly, with great insight from the staff into the different dishes and giving recommendations 👍🏼 I asked if they did cooking classes, which unfortunately they don't, but it was recommended I have a look on YouTube and search wagamama Steve, and guess what...that's exactly what I'm...
Read moreI dined here between Christmas/New Year 2022, I'm a frequent customer of Wagamama up and down the country, so this is not my first rodeo.
On arrival we were greeted with the usual line of people and the staff member handing out the menus to all typical of any branch.
We were shown to a booth, which was perfect as we had Kids and Christmas shopping. The order was placed with a professional, rather than friendly, member of staff, no issues at all. Then the issues began, no cutlery...I walked to a staff member to ask for cutlery and was told that "it arrives with the food", as a frequent customer, this was unusual as normally it doesn't....ok.
Then the drinks arrived, a bottle of Merlot (£21) and two filthy glasses (the kids drinks were fine). I took the glasses to the bar to ask for two clean glasses and was passed two equally dirty glasses. We then returned to the bar to ask why the glasses were still dirty, we were told that "the dishwasher is on the blink". The bar staff acknowledged that the glasses were dirty and proceeded to "wash" them by hand. Essentially this was they scratched the chunks of dirt from the glasses and handed them to us wet with a paper napkin to dry them ourselves. On returning to the table we found that the food had already started to arrive with... No cutlery to actually eat them with, so across the restaurant I head to get something to eat the, now getting cold food with. Five minutes later I managed to get a knife and fork, though the food is now cold, at least I can eat it......
So it took us five trips from our table to get cutlery and a not clean, but not filthy glass to drink from, not a great start to a meal.
If I'm paying £70-80 for 4 bowls of rice and two glasses of wine, it would be great to be able to consume them without spending 20 minutes begging for clean cutlery and glasses......
All in all a disappointing visit to a brand that I'd normally consider to be a little prestigious and worth the outlay, so much that on my second day in Manchester...I...
