Papi's Pizzeria Uplands — Restaurant in Wales

I booked a table here for valentines day and the food here is good, but does much the same as other pizza spots around Swansea.

The service however was awful, after arriving, nobody came to seat us, but there was also not a sign to seat ourselves. After going to the bar to ask someone if we seat ourselves, he stared at me in silence and then took us to a table which was still dirty and which we had to share with another couple. We had to ask him to clear the table which took him 5 minutes. He then gave us our menus and mumbled that he would give us a 10% discount, and we’d only just sat down. It took him another 10-15 to come and take our order, and that was only after id asked if it was table service or pay at the bar. The starter and pizza come and theyre fine. But they do not bring us nor offer us any dips, or the oils which were on other tables, so I go grab that myself. We finish our food and then it takes another 15 minutes for the bill to come, which in fact isnt brought and i had to ask for at the bar.

Our experience was bad but I cant help but feel worse for the line of couples at the bar and door, waiting up to 20 minutes for seats which were readily available, or any interaction at all from the wait staff. I feel even worse for the couple next to us, who had to ask to be seated, grab their own menus, and waited 30+ minutes for someone to acknowledge them so they could order drinks.

There was also no music in the restaurant aside from that which the chefs were listening to, and so the sound of complaints could be heard multiple tables across, or the sound of nothing at all.

Im usually one to cut a lot of slack to wait staff. But this...

I have a long history with Papi's, ever since they opened in Pontardulais. Heck I even came here for pizza during my wife's 48 hour labour! If I could eat nothing else it would be pizza from Papi's. I would die happy.

So, here I am in Uplands, 6 years after my first experience and our charismatic waiter just served me a Lasagne pizza... Oh my... the bechamel base, mozzarella, ham, parmegiano, basil and Ragu were so good in contrast to the crispy outer crust and blistered edges. It collided 2 of Italy's best creations into a super pizza that everyone should try at least once.

Do yourselves a favour and get down to Papi's in Uplands and try this culinary delight (which they just agreed to put...

Lovely food and service. Easily the best pizza I've ever had the pleasure of eating. Second time going there I got the tricolore with olives and the buffala mozzarella is dreamy.

On any weekday the atmosphere in there is very romantic and cozy. But on a weekend it can be very busy and loud. Not off-putting levels of noise if you're out with friends but on a date it can be a bit much.

Overall 5 stars all round. Papi's is now easily in my top 5 places to eat...
