My girlfriend and I stayed here for a single night in late July of this year, so obviously I am leaving this review a tad late. During this two week trip around Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and back to Ireland, I have to say: Pontcanna Inn was my favorite place to stay. I was kinda upset that I did not book more nights here, actually. When we arrived, the sky was grey, a light rain was falling, and the downstairs bar and dining area just felt like home. It was so, so cozy. The worker at the bar helped us get checked in and was quite friendly. Our room was just up the stairs, and gosh, it was the coziest room. I think that is the word that I keep coming back to when I think of this room/inn/restaurant: cozy! The lighting was perfect, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious and the shower warm and of nice pressure, with a window looking out on the street below. I believe that the rooms were renovated shortly after our stay, so I cannot speak to them anymore, but, at the time, I loved it. The check-in and check-out process was easy, though to be honest I found myself a little confused about what to do with the key when I was leaving. I think we ended up sticking it in a box, and perhaps I had just missed something in the check-out instructions. The inn is situated adjacent to Bute Park (I believe) as well as some fields and gardens, with the River Taff running through it all. So, of course, between check-in and check-out, we took a walk along the river and through the woods and around the fields, picking four leaf clovers as we went. It was so relaxing, especially after the too-muchness of the bigger cities we had just visited. Cardiff felt very much like home. Back at the inn, after our walk, we sat at a table and ordered several dishes and some beers. The food was so good, some of the best we had had recently, and the atmosphere was--can I reuse the word cozy? Am I being too much? It was cozy. There isn't too much more to share. We were only there a night, but, like I said, I would have gladly stayed longer, like a full week. Whenever I return to Cardiff, I hope to stay here again.

I stayed here with a friend on a Saturday night, as we were going to a concert at the Motorpoint arena. Everything was great - the staff were very friendly and informative, the room was huge and had everything you could possibly need (except maybe a proper wardrobe, if you were planning a long stay). There were also lots of little nice and/or convenient touches: how cold and hot the taps ran; the hedgehog door stop; the waterfall shower head; etc. It’s about a 15 minute walk to town, which was fine for us, and an Uber home at the end of the night, from the town centre, only cost about £3.60. It was the Six Nations whilst we were there, so the pub downstairs was very noisy, which you could hear in the room. I wasn’t bothered by it - the pub had shut by the time we got in in the evening, so everything was quiet then, and if you’re choosing to stay above a pub I think it’s reasonable to expect noise! We didn’t eat so can’t comment on the food, but the breakfast/brunch menu looked good. I’d definitely recommend, and stay again. The room rate was very reasonable.

On arrival welcomed us with a smile and dealt with as fast as he could (during a very busy time) he was so polite and professional. Didn’t make us feel rushed and made us feel if we had any problems it would be dealt with. Put us in Room 9 - it was stunning! Immaculate, lots of beautiful warm touches like the free cookies on the bed, a cute dog teddy and display of top quality towels. Provided a snack box, tea station, a luxury coffee machine and even hot chocolate with fancy cute little bottles of milk. The window and heavy curtains were magic they completely blocked out the street noise and sunlight. The bed was the perfect size and very comfortable had the best sleep! Finally and most importantly the fan that was provided in the room was the icing on the cake much needed couldn't have slept in this heat without it! Plenty of parking opposite hotel. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Room 9.

The Pontcanna Inn is very well situated close to Sophie Park, Cardiff university and the castle. They don't have on-site parking, but the road that they are on has plenty of free parking, both sides of the road. We never had trouble finding somewhere to leave the car, day or night. There are lots of buses that regularly go past/stop on the road, which is great if you don't fancy driving into Cardiff city centre yourself.||The atmosphere of the Inn is relaxed and the staff are really friendly and very helpful, during the daytime, but being near to the university, in the evenings the Inn got very crowded, and loud music was played until the pub shut around 12.30am. They have a security person on the door on Friday and Saturday nights which is reassuring. ||The bedroom and on-suite bathroom were done up really nicely. The room felt very cosy. The bed was really comfortable. Nice big shower, with easy heat controls. Lots of towels, a hairdryer, soaps, shampoo and moisturiser to use. |The room had a mini fridge and a selection of coffee/ tea, and snacks you can buy. They take a £25 deposit from you, then if your have anything from the selection they deduct that from the £25, then they reimburse your card back what you haven't spent in the room. ||Trying to get in touch with them in person was tricky to do. I rang the number and got put through to an altermated machine. Each option I tried I was told to leave a message and they would get back to me - they didn't, and the phone went dead! I replied to my confirmation email and asked my question there - they didn't reply. I had to wait until we got to the place to ask on person my question. Then they were really good, helpful and apologetic for missing my attemps. ||I booked a "Cosy" room which I was led to believe came set up with a double bed and a sofa-bed. When we got there there was no sofa-bed. I went down to reception to query this only to be told that they charge extra for having the sofa- bed put up in a room. I had written in my booking that I had wanted/expected a sofa-bed, and that there is no mention when booking a Cosy room that a sofa-bed would cost more! The receptionist said that she will look into that. |All that said, I would recommend to stay here, and if my daughter comes to Cardiff university next year, I...

This was chosen for a special|Birthday meal|Prior to a concert in Cardiff .|We all live in Cardiff but had friends visiting from away. |OMG !!!!!|Where do I start !!!! We arrived , you can’t open a tab whilst dining at the table and don’t have drinks service whilst dining. |0k fine ! |It was 4 pm on. Friday afternoon and there may have been two others tables occupied. After choosing our dishes all but one weren’t available . The menu is very limited anyway but hey ho we all ended up having a choice of two meals .||The starters arrived and were adequate.|When the mains were brought to the table our starters had not been cleared . When we asked the young waiter if he could please clear our table , his response was ‘sorry I ve not had time , I’ve been on the bins ‘|||Hopefully he washed his hands 🙌 I am not fussy and eat anything, I had ordered a cheese burger with Jalapeños etc. The burger must have been cooked previously, wouldn’t suprise mr if it was days prior and bunged in the microwave. We had never seen anything like it . Must be the first meal I have not eaten in a restaurant.|It was cold , the slice of cheese was transparent and the cheese was like rubber . The burger was hard , cold and certainly cooked previously. I have never experienced anything like it .|||Yes , I should have complained, being a birthday & friends from|Spain I didn’t want to make a fuss.||The whole time in the venue sat adjacent to the bar were two members of staff , we assumed managers . I have never seen anything so unprofessional, at one point when I was at the bar , the bar staff had disappeared so she left her post and was then discussing with the bar man where they had been 🤯🤦‍♀️||Being a Cardiff resident , our whole table was shocked and disappointed beyond belief In such a beautiful city and an affluent location how can staff think this...
