I had high hopes of having a good experience here given the pedigree of the Team and what they had achieved with their restaurant in the Vale. Sadly this doesn't seem to have transpired at their new venture. Having confirmed that I had a reservation we were shown to our seat, I did not get a warm welcoming smile nor was their any attempt to engage in conversation. While promised menus and a wine list I had to wait a further 10 minutes after sitting down and another prompt for the wine list to be provided to me. Food was ordered and starters were adequate. I ordered the monkfish which came with a broth containing cockles and samphire, while tasting good it was sadly let down by the addition of salt to the monkfish which in addition to the already salty ingredients in the broth it spoilt the dish for me. I fed this back and was advised the chef would receive this feedback. I ordered the sirloin of beef for Sunday lunch. I must say the roast potatoes were spot on as was the gravy and vegetables; however the star of the show was incredibly disappointing. I am a huge fan of roast beef being served pink or medium rare, however the portion I was served was quite clearly rare and in the same areas I'd say uncooked (photo attached). Because of this the meat was extremely difficult to slice even with a steak knife being provided. I eventually gave up on it. I was then offered dessert. From receiving the menu I noted that I had still not been asked whether I would like to order after 15 minutes. Focus was clearly on clearing other tables rather than serving the guests who were still present. I eat regularly across South Wales and have a real passion for food and good hospitality and I was upset that I'd not only wasted my money but also my time here today. Guys I would recommend you spend some time visiting Y-Polyon in Carmarthenshire, this will give you a good idea on where you need to be from a front of house perspective. I'm afraid employing children to serve as cheap employment doesn't cut it. They lacked the confidence and experience needed to make the experience for the guest top class.

It was so salty it burned my and my mother in-laws mouth! We ordered squid, ravioli and pigās cheek as our starters, as well as sourdough and oysters as appetisers. We got our drinks and waited. 40 mins after a women appeared apologised and said that they lost our order and forgot about us. Because of that the starters and dessert will be on the house. She also said that by the time they realised that the oysters and cauliflower were gone. We asked to get us our ordered bread which was cold and stale, but overall fine. Then 15 mins later starters appeared. Squid was so over salted it burned. I didnāt even finished it. My in-laws had ravioli and those were undercooked (not al dente, but undercooked). The only fine one was pigās cheek. When plates were collected the waitress didnāt even ask how was the food. Next the main course came. This time the fish was over salted! My mother in law couldnāt eat it and this time I voiced this issue. They promised to remove fish from the bill. The rest 3 of us had porchetta and it could be nice if it wasnāt so salty as well! At this point we were hungry so we eat it. Even though our desserts were promised to be complimentary, we decided that we had enough. The bill arrived with all starters in and cauliflower that we didnāt get and the waitress stated that the service wouldnāt be added to the bill. We had to ask to amend the final bill which they did and I therefore attach to this review. P.S. Women washroom didnāt have hand soap nor toilet paper. All of that was so surprising as we went here for lunch before and it was lovely. Nothing overly impressive but tasty and fresh. No idea what happened this time.

Me and my girlfriend had a Sunday lunch at the Heathcock last Sunday, off the back of a friend's recommendation. The good bits - my food was lovely, thought the beef was cooked to perfection, roasties were tasty and the cauliflower cheese was great. Service was friendly and welcoming and the cost in my eyes was reasonable. However the bad bits - we waited over 45mins for our meals to arrive, my girlfriends roasties were overdone and unedible for her. She was also gutted about having one single carrot ( I didn't really mind) it's a shame food took so long to arrive as it put us off ordering a dessert (the souffle looked great.) We was also seated in the building next to the beer garden, next to the door which made sitting there a cold experiance. Im keen to try again and see if this was a one off, however it will be hard to persuade the girlfriend to go again. I would personally give the Heathcock 4* however the girlfriend said her rating was 2* so I evened it out.

Managed to scoop a table some time after 7:30 on a rainy Friday evening, off the cuff, so was immediately impressed with the Heathcock's accommodation. Strolling through the bar with plenty of trendy types, bode well for the experience to come. We skipped a starter, wanting to jump straight in since it was already 8ish and even though the choices were somewhat limited they were very different offerings. My lovely wife had the wild Sea Bass and I the Venison, and I must say... Wow! What dishes they were. Simply presented with perfect accompaniments and a puree and jus... Just devine. I really enjoyed my plate and the side of Pembrokeshire potatoes that seemed part boiled then split and roasted were amazing. Since I was driving a small and rather tasty house red, went down beautifully. Very highly recommended If I was to change anything it would be to add a little colour and warm to the deco, and grind the coffee beans elsewhere š

Had dinner reservation at the Heathcock for family of 6. Sat evening so was very busy, restaurant is through the bar area at the back of the building which is a little awkward when the bar is crowded. And there's no parking and just a small adjacent side road, so plan ahead if you are driving. Once seated the service was efficient, friendly and helpful, food arrived in good time with some delicious homemade breads offered while you wait. Some dishes had sold out so we ordered Hake, Hanger Steak, Pork chop, Welsh rarebit and star of the show whole seabass baked in salt. Sides of new potatoes and chunky chips. All were delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Desserts were creme caramel, creme brulee and lemon tart. Again all perfectly cooked and tasty. First time at the Heathcock, service and food was great and I enjoyed it very much. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for something above the ordinary.

I recently had lunch at this gastropub, and it was an overall pleasant experience. From the start, I was warmly welcomed by a friendly staff, who were attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere is modern and relaxed, with decor that really invites you to settle in and enjoy your time. On the food side, I was particularly impressed with the tortellini, cooked perfectly al dente, with a memorable texture and flavor. For dessert, the poached pear served with custard was another highlight ā the mix of flavors and textures was smooth and comforting. The only minor disappointment was the stuffed rabbit as the main course, which lacked a bit of character. I was hoping for something with a bit more punch, though it was still enjoyable overall. All in all, this is a spot Iād definitely recommend, and Iāll be coming back to explore other dishes!
