Having done Baba's during Euro 2016 it was time to try their over the road rivals at The Millennium Balti. My first, indeed only, disappointment was that The MB wasn't crewed by a Wookie but rather by a very charming young Asian feller.
On to the food. Popadoms with a choice from four chutneys were demolished tout de suite. As was a big bottle of Tiger (a snip at £2 odd), it being one of the hottest days of the year. Onion bhajis were perfect - not too greasy and a good lead in to a Chicken Rezalla which had the required amount of heat without being devastating. Despite the scorching weather a steady stream of customers came in through the door, a testament to the quality of Millennium's offer. And at under 15 quid a head it was extraordinary value given that we'd had two rounds of drinks.
So how does it compare to across the road? Well, it doesn't have the crazy edge that comes with King Baba's random conversation generator approach to customer service, and I'd say that the whole product in terms of food, décor and service is at a superior level.
However, there is a place for Baba's less polished style and so I'd encapsulate the two in this legend:-
Baba's for mates, the...
Read moreI am an Indian and I feel that the food is tasty and authentic. I have had food here a few times and it has not disappointed yet. So no wonder this was awarded as the winner of Restaurant of the year for 2017.
I must, however, mention the fact that they need a couple of spare chairs to allow people who are waiting for their takeaways to sit.
I have walked into this restaurant twice for taking away dinners and found myself standing by the pillar by the bar waiting for my food. On both occasions, I sat on empty tables while waiting for my food. On both occasions I was asked to move. I understand that the tables are for people eating in and I should not have sat while waiting.
But I must mention that on the second occasion when I was waiting for my food to go, I was asked to sit on a chair while I waited and within a couple of minutes I was asked to move because a couple wanted to be seated on the same table. I felt unwanted and embarrased and angry. Needless to say, I will not be returning here.
tl;dr Good food, no place to sit while waiting for...
Read moreI am updating my review due to our last visit to the Millennium Balti in L/Spa. Oh my , how things have changed. Gone, the friendly welcome, Gone, the ability to order drinks instead told to go to shop aroud corner if we want to drink any alcohol. After we had ordered the food, it didnt take long arrive, but oh how the portion size has shrunk, very very disappointed. The boiled rice was dried out and hard the four small cubes of chicken in my Pathia were tough and the sauce was watery. Others on our table were faced with similar meals. The Naan used to be one of the best around but now i would say it was way below average. Would we go back NO, definitely a place to avoid these days, its a great shame as it was a lovely place. See my old review below.
