Even on a tuesday night it was very busy with both indoor and outside seating taken. The interior is well decorated and the tables and seats comfortable and not too crowded or cramped. I was surprised and just how clean and bright the lavatories were as well, both the men's (from personal experience) and women's (from fellow diner) appeared to be really well maintained and had a random radio comedy playing which was slightly odd but not unpleasant. The other thing that really struck me was the lack of overpowering music which meant we could all talk without having to shout whilst still enjoying the background tunes when appropriate.
The menu has a good variety of steaks and other food, and whilst it is on the more expensive side, it also clearly explains why it is at that price - good quality food costs more. Whilst this is true, it does mean that the Lazy cow as more of a special occasion dinner destination for me. It also explains the various cuts of meat which was particularly useful for explaining to my fellow diners about the different steaks on offer and what to expect from each.
Our drinks were brought promptly and we were given enough time to review the menu and select food without being pestered. Being someone who is particularly fussy about steaks, I was slightly hesitant about ordering it here but I was pleasantly surprised. The steak was cooked to perfection and all food arrived at the table together, all were hot, and all cooked to the individual preferences.
In addition to the steaks being cooked to perfection, the Baby Back Ribs were relatively small but by far the best I've had in at least the last 10 years (probably only topped by Tony Roma's in the US). The chips were well cooked without being burned and there was a good selection of sauces available both to have cooked with the steak, and the usual table top ones.
All-in-all we had an excellent time at the Lazy Cow, the service was pleasant and attentive without being annoying, the decor was slightly quirky but enjoyable, and the food...

Booked same day on a Saturday lunchtime for a group of 11, 7 adults, 3 children and 1 toddler requiring a high chair which they would provide.
When we arrived we instantly noticed the wood fired pizza oven being the showpiece for all to admire. We were greeted and shown to our table which was wonderfully setup with the high chair provided.
Drinks and kid food orders were taken first with the waiting staff ensuring everyone was attended to. The food menu was extensive ranging from pizzas, pastas, Mediterranean style food and pub classics so I was concerned the quality may be lacking as they're stretching it too thing across too many dishes. They also have a kids menu which massively helped with the kids food.
As soon as our drinks and kids meals arrived, our food order was taken without any issues. We were asked about any allergies which thankfully there were none to declare. The majority of our party were veggies for which there was more than enough of a selection to satisfy.
I opted for the lamb flatbread which was meant to be a sharer, but it was cheaper than some of the main dishes. As I wasn't feeling like a pizza but wanted something from the pizza oven, this was perfect!
The food arrived without delay and boy was I surprised. The quality was very good for such a large menu! My flat bread was cooked just right with perfectly crisped crusts and a well balanced amount of toppings. Delicious!
There were no complaints from anyone else!
The overall service was excellent and they even provided us with some of the breakfast items past the cut-off time of midday which they didn't have to do!
The interior was lovely, had the traditional pub look and feel whilst not being a dark and dinghy dive.
I'd recommend this if you're in the area and want a drink and a bite to eat!
Can't say too much one the prices as I didn't have to pay but do check the menu in advance if money...
Read moreWe had a one night stay between Christmas and New Year. We chose a dog friendly room as we were traveling with our well-behaved small dog. Check in was good, staff very pleasant. We were given Room 1 which was on the ground floor. Once we entered we could immediately smell what we thought was sewage. I went back to reception and they swapped our room immediately which was great. The manager on duty was excellent and we couldn't fault her. The room whilst a reasonable size seemed very dated and in desperate need of some TLC. The carpet looked tired, only half of the lights in the bathroom worked. The toilet seat was loose and sliding around side to side, the cold tap was loose and spinning around. On the plus side, the towels were lovely and soft and large which was great. We ate in the pub that evening, our starter of italian meatballs were lovely. My main course of Porchetta was good however my partner had Pollo Picante and it was burnt. In hindsight we should have sent it back but it was a very poor dish considering it cost almost £20. We both slept well in the really comfy bed however we were disappointed in the breakfast the following morning. There was supposed to be toasted sourdough bread, it was just standard white bread toasted. The sausage tasted cheap. the beans were runny. Everything seemed 'cheap'. Add to this that the young girl who 'greeted us' and served us clearly didn't want to be there. We paid £216.50 for one night stay, dinner B&B and for this amount i expected more. The standard of food and accommodation is lacking. And some of the staff seemed quite miserable. We were very disappointed with our stay after reading some of the positive reviews...
