Ordered/ booked TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE, fruits de mer, (FOR TWO), £95 drove nearly three hours for this meal with my wife and daughter, it was a struggle to get there as I had a full knee replacement 5 weeks ago, after finding somewhere to park we managed to walk to the restaurant, we were booked in at 5pm, but rang to see if we could eat at 1pm which was fine, we were running a little late, so rang the restaurant and said we are half an our behind and will be there for 1,30 pm which was fine with them, on arrival, the restaurant was busy, our table was reserved with a nice sea view, the waiter said they only have half a lobster, which wasn't acceptable, she said people order it and don't turn up, we called them twice the same day change times, so they know we were definitely coming and they had reserved our table.the fruits de mer was all for me, my wife ordered a crab salad and daughter ordered a prawn salad, the waiter offered me a discount of £40 and the 1st drinks was free, they said they would up with extra crab and seafood, waited nearly 1 hour for the food to arrive, the prawn salad and crab salad looked nice, however the fruits de mer was a platter of pure rubbish, this was supposedly for two people with extra seafood, i got 6 oysters, 4 crevettes, 2 small piece of dried bread with no butter,2 dressed crabs, 1 was free, prawns with sauce and half a lobster. The lobster must have been frozen then cooked, VERY CHEWY, AND TOTALLY TASTELESS, THE PRAWNS WERE FROZEN AND DEFROSTED, TASTELESS, THE CRAB AND OYSTERS WERE NICE, i had to ask for butter and tobascco sauce, the waiter said sorry it should have been brought with my meal, you don't even get a finger bowl to was your hands in after pealing the crevettes,by this time they were flys around the food and on the window, I asked for the bill, and they only gave a £30 discount, not the £40 she offered, for £95 you would expect a little more, we'll not be returning here, we will stick to the MARINE, FAR BETTRR QUALITY...
Read moreAs I stepped into The Fisherman's Wife Whitby, I knew I was in for a treat. The warm and welcoming atmosphere, combined with the friendly and attentive staff, immediately put me at ease. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful, guiding us through the menu with enthusiasm and expertise.
But it was the food that truly stole the show. We started with oysters and wine, which were simply divine. The oysters were fresh and succulent, and the wine pairing was perfect. Next up was the fish pie, which was an unforgettable combination of flavors and textures. The seafood was tender and flaky, and the creamy sauce added a richness and depth that was simply heavenly.
The fish and chips was another highlight - a classic dish done to perfection. The fish was crispy and golden, and the chips were cooked to a perfect crunch. And the portion was enormous! We also tried the langoustines in batter, which were simply exquisite. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they were a delight to eat.
But what really made our experience special was the stunning view from the restaurant. As we sat down at our table, we were treated to a breathtaking vista of the harbor and the iconic lighthouses. It was the perfect accompaniment to our meal, and we found ourselves gazing out the window in wonder as we savored each bite.
Throughout the meal, the service was top-notch. Our server was friendly and efficient, and the team worked together seamlessly to ensure that our every need was met. The atmosphere was lively and convivial, with a warm and welcoming vibe that made us feel right at home.
In short, our experience at The Fisherman's Wife Whitby was nothing short of exceptional. With its outstanding food, excellent service, and stunning views of the harbor, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves seafood. We can't wait to go back!

Read moreI booked a table for four via the OpenTable app several weeks ago to ensure we would be able to eat here whilst on our holiday in Whitby. Last weekend I had a reminder message from OpenTable to confirm that we will attend, I confirmed that we would.
So, last night we arrived at the booked time and were shown to a table. Our order was taken promptly, but when it arrived we did need to request additional cutlery as there was only enough for two, no big deal really, because it was pretty busy. The food was very nice, so no problems there. Drinks prices were pretty steep; £6.95 for a pint of Moretti Lager, I can’t really complain though, because I was already aware of the drinks prices before we went. The atmosphere in the establishment was good, although somewhat noisy due to the repetitive sounds from the children’s funfair rides just outside of the window at the opposite end of the room. Again, it’s a holiday destination, so no real complaints. The windows were open because it was a very hot evening and - to be honest - the fresh air was very welcome, even though it meant that we had a troublesome fly hovering around us for our entire hour and a half that we were in there! Overall, I would say that the experience was OK.
However…today I received an email from OpenTable informing me that The Fisherman’s Wife had reported me as not honouring my booking. I replied to OpenTable that I did indeed attend and that I resented the suggestion that I was a ‘no show’. They responded to say that they had worked with the restaurant to ensure their records are accurate.
I have used online booking systems many times, I have always honoured them, never had any problems and always turned up on time, so to receive such an email was pretty irritating and embarrassing and I regret spending £100+ at The Fisherman’s Wife restaurant.
The restaurant may just see it as a misunderstanding, however I see it as leaving something of an unfair stain on...
