This was our first time here. Why haven't we been before - it's fabulous. We often walk the dog along the front at New Brighton at the weekend and we decided to stay out early today with breakfast at Driftwood. Full English (poached eggs - you can choose), bacon, sausage, black pudding, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes etc plus the staff are so accommodating, you could really mix and match with things you fancy from the extras list like potato cakes etc and it would be no trouble. The breakfast is as good as any I have had - made fresh to order - they even warm the plates. Coffee was as good as any I have had - you can keep your brands, this place makes gorgeous coffee. The service is really lovely too - you feel like you are visiting a friend. The surroundings are also perfect for this type of place - no airs and graces, just cosy and clean and comfy and welcoming. Lots of nice wall hangings, blankets for cold knees, a few local books and a"help yourself" jar of dog biscuits (although our cockapoo preferred the sausages and the attention from the owner!). Very dog friendly. Just a proper little gem. We'll be back, and back,...
Read moreFirst time of visiting this amazing cafe. Welcomed with a warm, friendly greeting and looked after well. Chose a regular and small breakfast. Excellent quality products, cooked to perfection and served hot. Accompanied by latte, again presented well and served hot. The sight of the homemade bakewell tart proved irresistible. This was truly amazing and one of the best desserts that we had ever tasted. Our whole experience at the driftwood couldn't have been better and at such good value for money. You certainly have got it right, the staff, food quality, ambience, value for money and wow factor. Will definitely be back soon even if it is almost 90 mile round trip!....

Welsh rarebit used to have a thick topping of cheesy, eggy, worcestershire saucyness but now a bit more like cheese on toast, and the chips that were once crisp and golden are more generic now. Speed of clearing between courses, despite our vinegar being taken when plates all finished 10 minutes before clearing, was annoying. Not great to sit by the counter and see a lot of dust and stuff under the coffee machine. The rest of the place was clean but thick dust at eyeline height... to us the place has slipped from 'one to recommend' to one that is ok. I hope it reverts as...
