Disappointing! I have visited this restaurant a number of times in the past and previously the food was great and the staff friendly and well mannered. The previously two times I have found the service poor and the portions small. They have a 'Christmas' lunch menu which I chose over the normal lunch menu. It was not particularly christmassy food but having previously had the lunch deal I decided to go for the Xmas version thinking it would be more substantial especially as the cost was an extra £9. There was a very similar Roquefort salad starter on both menus. My friend had ordered the salad from the normal menu and I had ordered it from the 'Christmas' menu. I was surprised then when the salads arrived and mine looked suspiciously exactly the same as the salad I previously had on the normal menu, but my friends was larger perhaps with more leaves. I therefore queried it with the waitress. I have come across this waitress before and I have to say I have never met a more arrogant and rude waitress in my life. She argued with me about the starter and pretty much shouted in my face that I was wrong and finally begrudgingly changed the salad and came back with an extremely insincere smile on her face. I actually felt like crying as I felt humiliated in front of my friends. I've never been made to feel like this in a restaurant. God knows what occurred in the kitchen. The cheese in my salad was not genuine Roqueford, more of a lower quality alternative. This is the second time I have been served by this waitress who clearly feels she is far too good to be serving customers. She dances around the place like a prima ballerina and the dress she had on which had a slit right up to the top of her leg was rather inappropriate I and my fellow diners thought. The other reason I chose the Christmas menu was that it had salmon and I expected it to be more substantial than the sea bream on the normal lunch menu that I had previously. WRONG! The salmon portion was very small and overcooked with masses of creamy sauce and a couple of tiny potatoes and a few green beans. Given. Overall a very...
Read moreI attended this restaurant in the early evening recently with my wife and a close mutual friend to celebrate a birthday. Having indicated this to one of the staff, we were immediately offered complimentary water for the table and a free glass each of Kir Royale by Vince, our waiter. I should also mention Rian by name at this point, as she also went "above and beyond" to ensure things went well.
We then ordered three courses each from the set menu, along with 1 side of bread, 3 soft drinks to accompany the main course, and liqueur coffees to follow our desserts. Our food was beautifully prepared and presented, and the service was attentive but not at all pushy or intrusive.
Perhaps somewhere on earth there is a restaurant where nobody ever makes a mistake. I've yet to eat there, and to my mind one of the measures of good customer service is how mistakes are handled. I can assure you that Cote in Woking handles such errors in an exemplary manner!
Some confusion over which coffee was meant for whom resulted in all 3 liqueur coffees being offered to us free of charge without me even asking about it.
When I pointed out another small error on the bill, adding that I wasn't minded to insist on correcting it because we had had such a good evening and been treated so well, the response was immediate and insistent: the member of staff in question accepted personal responsibility, took the bill away, correctly reduced it further, and brought it back.
In short, the beautiful decor, excellent range of dishes on all the menus (including the fixed price), superb preparation and presentation, warmth of welcome, and attentive customer service would make it downright ungrateful to quibble over a couple of small errors. Hence the 5-star review: it may not quite be perfect, but when even the mistakes are perfectly handled, it's as near as...
Read moreWe went for an early dinner at 4:30pm due to having just had a wonderful time at Woking panto for a Christmas treat with our 2 year old and her grandparents. We ordered some garlic bread to share for a starter and our mains all at the same time. My daughter’s meal arrived with the garlic bread even though we had requested it with the mains but that wasn’t a huge issue until 1 hour and 15 minutes later when there was still no sign of our mains arriving. My husband asked where the food was and the waiter made no apology but blamed his colleague for lack of communication as he had ‘just taken over’ our table - not our problem. Another long while later, we managed to catch the ‘acting manager’ for the evening to ask him where our food was. Again, we received absolutely no apology but were again told it was due to a colleague’s error and also because we ordered starters which delayed the main courses. I am not sure a bit of garlic bread between 4 people warrants over an hour wait for main meals. We’d finished all of our drinks and no one had asked if we wanted any more while we waited. All in all we were at the restaurant for almost 2 hours with no food in sight watching all of the tables fill up around us receiving their meals. When we decided enough was enough, we told the waiter to forget our order as we were tired of waiting, but still, unbelievably, not a single person in the restaurant apologised or even acknowledged that we were leaving. My husband approached the ‘acting manager’ on our way out to tell him we were going, and he had absolutely nothing to say to us. I have never witnessed such appalling service (or lack of) and it was so disappointing that we had an experience like this on what was supposed to be a festive...
