Incident - wetherspoons - 23.1.25 3pm "pint of porter or a glass of water ?"
"The customer is always right" does not apply to the "moon under water" rules. I felt I was back in the Covid tyranny regime when bar staff acted as government officers with license to bark orders at the customers.
At 3pm on 23.1.25 I walked into " moon under water" to meet a friend from Much Wenlock who i sometimes meet for a drink and chat when he happens to be in town. I went up to the bar on the left hand side and asked a young barman for a "pint of porter please" I was told to go to the other room (on the right hand side) So I did, and I couldn't see the porter but thought to wait and see if the young barmanwith the huge hearing aid would attend to me but he served others in the other room instead so I waited patiently for some other bar staff to appear and a chap who looked Caribbean appeared and I was going to ask him about the porter when the hearing aid man appeared and I told him that I couldn't see the porter to which he replied "You asked for water" 😠 That got my Irish up as they say I remarked about his hearing aid not being very effective and that he had misheard what was said. No apologies just refusal to be served and told to leave. So I asked for the manager and he sided with the deaf man I suggested that the manager replay the AV recording to check what was said only to learn that they have video but no audio (readers take note) I also suggested that this sort of thing can happen when Wetherspoons hire staff that have hearing disabilities. I told him I would write up the incident and let Sir Tim Martin know that this is the new face of Wetherspoons in Wolverhampton. The manager was very flippant about it so I pulled out my phone to record my voice as proof that I had not used any profanities or offensive speech only to find out later that the phone didn't record anything. But I swear under pain of purjury that I am speaking truth. However these kinds of incidents can happen in Wolverhampton bars when your accent is foreign to black country ears. I've put up with this for forty odd years and nothing's changed for the better in Wolves. I'll meet my friend elsewhere...
Read moreVisited here 3 times this year. The breskfast is lovely! However since going back twice from then ive noticed a decline in food quality and cleanliness. Went yesterday with my partner and didn't enjoy the meal at all. I asked the waitress when she delivered the food to our table for bbq sauce. She told me there was already some on my chicken burger. I looked at her in confusion and said yes I'd like some with my chips. She told me I'd have to go to the bar and pay for it. I was totally confused and a little annoyed as i didn't see the problem when they have bottles of red sauce and mayo on the sauce table. It costs the exact same per bottle! The chips were bog standard and tasted like i had cooked them myself from Iceland. The chicken burger was thrown together and had a pathetic amount of dressing on top. We walked around several tables trying to find a clean one and gave up in the end and seated ourselves at a dirty one. The waitresses walking around didn't bother to check if we were ok or clean the table even though it was cleanly dirty and had previous peoples food smudged into the table. I won't be returning here again after yesterday. Overall I'm disappointed in the decline of the...
Read moreSadly I cannot share my experience as myself and 2 fellow OAP'S were refused access to the establishment at 10.30am last Saturday for breakfast as in the words of the door person "we have a policy no match ticket no entry". I did try to explain we were 3 OAP's with an average age of around 70. This seemed to cut no ice with the security guy. Who stated "you do not sound local". I did not realise the Wetherspoons were adopting an ageist and regional accent policy to discriminate against potential patrons? We have been a great advocates of Wetherspoons for many years and always, when travelling google wetherspoons first. To guarantee decent food and reasonably price drink. Wetherspoons failed us on this day and we did not get our breakfast a very important meal for pensioners. We wandered around and finally found a sandwich shop.(not ideal). After this very inadequate breakfast we adjourned to The Billy Wright public house where we were welcomed by the lovely bar person's who treated 3 OAP'S with repect and remembered our drinks when we returned to the bar. We were treated to superb customer service and respect thought out our visit. Something Sadly lacking at...
