Mother Hubbard’s Famous Fish & Chips (Worcester) — Restaurant in Worcester

Ordered our food to take out at 7:09 waited until 7:35 still no food walked up and just asked about it. another lady interrupted the other saying she already called the number 3 times in an extremely rude tone. i didn’t hear her call any number at all nor did the 2 others i was sat with, only the other lady so she’s clearly not loud enough. I then commented on her being rude before she smirked at me after handing me the bag. Appalling service mother hubbard what are you going to do about this because that was completely unacceptable will not be eating there again and will also be informing anyone i know not too. Seriously do better.

A reply to your input: i never once said that she did not call the number i said it wasn’t loud enough as i could hear the other lady’s shouts perfectly, ensure staff members can do their job, if it includes calling out numbers they need to be able to shout loud enough so people sat at the back of the waiting area can hear (otherwise maybe move the waiting area) Secondly by all means believe your staff member’s account but judging by other reviews this isn’t the first time your staff’s manners have caused problems. I’ve never before had to leave a bad review anywhere (look on my profile), yet i’ve never been spoken to in that manner when being served. I get it’s a Saturday night i wasn’t even particularly bothered about the wait i just assumed something had gone wrong, which it had so i brought it up for context. The staff member who eventually served me is also the one which was extremely rude so of course she will “confirm” she made every effort to get my attention- except apparently be louder or get someone who could. However being honest this isn’t really the problem here. All that was needed was a really quick “oh i called that number and no one responded here you go” that honestly wouldn’t have been a problem, the problem was the tone of frustration, anger and defensiveness when i wasn’t even addressing her to begin with but rather i said to the other lady (who was courteous) “hi we have been waiting for a while we are 119 and have heard later numbers being called do you know how long ours will be thanks?” Also there’s no point in telling people their perception is important after dismissing them and saying that you don’t believe them because then it’s clearly not. I actually work at a resturant and whenever there is a complaint like this.. guess what? My manager would never dream of taking the staffs side and then relay that directly to the customer- especially when the staff have form for this behaviour-the level of hospitality understanding is laughable, customers are important to most restaurants btw (it’s how they stay in buisness 😉).. but not here! Anyway if anyone wants to eat here the food is decent, expensive but decent- i recommend getting a delivery so you don’t have to face the staff, just filter the reviews to lowest and have a look, in the last 2 months there have been 5 reviews that talk negatively about staff all 1 star ratings.. out of 31 total reviews - so nearly 1/6 of your recent reviews talk of Staffs bad behaviour yet you don’t believe me, that’s fine but don’t but surprised to get more bad reviews about your staff. A Truly Outstanding Experience at Mother Hubbard's

From the moment you step through the doors of Mother Hubbard's, it’s clear that this establishment holds itself to the highest standards—not only in the quality of its food, but also in the warmth and professionalism of its service.

The staff are consistently welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind, delivering what I can only describe as the best customer service I have experienced in a long time. Their friendly demeanour and efficiency contribute to an atmosphere that is both inviting and refreshingly down-to-earth.

Equally impressive is the management, whose leadership is clearly reflected in the positive work environment and the seamless operation of the shop. It’s rare to find a place where both staff morale and customer satisfaction are so clearly prioritised.

As for the food—simply phenomenal. The fish is always perfectly cooked with a light, crisp batter, and the chips are deliciously golden and satisfying. Every meal is fresh, flavourful, and prepared with care.

Mother Hubbard's is a shining example of how a traditional fish and chip shop can deliver excellence in every aspect. I couldn’t recommend...

Update 21st May Visited again to see if issues have been resolved and was unwell on the night and the next morning - both of us had food poisoning. No idea what you are doing but something isn't right at this Mother Hubbard anymore. Interested to know why your standards have dropped so low that we were made ill from the food both times. Unless you acknowledge and rectify this we won't EVER be coming back - both occasions we have paid to be made very unwell - unacceptable and dangerous!

Sad to say won't be eating here again until they sort themselves out.

Been enjoying the food since they opened but yesterday I could tell something was up as the food tasted bad like other chippys these days eg lowesmoor chippy. Either bad old oil or fat as the chips had foul taste to them and the fish batter also. Was unsettled stomach same night then very unwell next day.

Standards here have really dropped and no one should be paying to be unwell or get food poisoning.

So sad to have to give up this place as used to love the food here.

Hope you sort it out Mother Hubbard's Worcester - and fast. The last 2-3 months reviews on here have been very bad so something bad...
