I grew up in this town, and GJ’s used to be one of those places that actually meant something. The pizza was great, the service was fast, and it had a reputation you could count on. But after hearing from some old friends that things had taken a nosedive under the new owner, I decided to see for myself while I was back in town.
Honestly, I wish I hadn’t.
I stopped by a couple weeks ago, and the experience was a mess from the start. It took nearly 40 minutes to get a single pizza and a drink—only for the order to be wrong. When I asked the staff if there was a manager or owner I could speak to, one of them just shrugged and said the owner “doesn’t really come around anymore” and “he’s not in a great mood when he does.” Not exactly reassuring.
Still, I figured maybe it was a one-off bad day, so I came back one more time before leaving town—during Cherry Fest, no less. You’d think with a busy crowd, management would be present. But no. Long lines, confused staff, missing items in my order again. When I asked if the owner was around this time, the cashier said, almost word for word, “He’s never really here. That’s kinda why things are like this now.”
That just about says it all.
It’s obvious the current ownership has no real investment in this place beyond collecting what’s left of the profit. The heart of GJ’s is gone. What used to feel like a reliable local gem now just feels hollow and frustrating.
I don’t usually leave reviews, but it’s honestly depressing to see something that once had so much potential fall apart like this. If the owner happens to see this—and actually cares—maybe take a long look at how far this place has slipped under your watch. Because from the outside, it looks like you’ve checked out completely.
GJ’s deserved better. So did...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews, but this place left me no choice. I was hingry for a late night snack. It was about 9:15. I looked up restaurants that were next to my hotel room and found this joint. Reviews looked great. Pizza looked good. I walked over to the place. There were no lights in the parking lot. It was pitch black. I barely saw the sign. I came in amd the guy at the front counter was watching a rerun of the green bay game. I had to stay there and wait fir HIM to finish watching the play before he asked me how he could help me. When i did ask him he rudely told me i had 30 more minutes and threw me a menu. Then i asked what he would recommend and he gave me a look. So i said nevermind. I looked at the menu but was already pretty irritated so i changed my mind. I needed a fork for the left over wedding cake that i had in my cooler. Looked around, couldnt find one, so i asked him if he had a plastic fork. He rudely again replied and said no. I am sure pizza may have tasted good but i never got to try it... customer...
Read moreI think the picture explains everything that needs to be said. Haven’t been here in a long time only been here once before but the food was pretty okay so I came back. Appearntly all sanitary practice went out the window as I found a in my food. Instantly brought it to the employee’s attention and asked to speak to the owner about what the hell is going on in the kitchen. Employee said “owner isn’t here and we don’t know when he will be here. The manger takes care of most customer complaints”. Asked when he’d be back and was told “the owner’s schedule is unpredictable”.
I beg your pardon what kind of managment lets the safety and hygiene standards be non existent? If what the employee is saying is true about the owner than a lot of safety inspections need to be done, cause this is neglect both to your store and your customers.
I don’t remember there being any problems with the kitchen or owner last time I came here unless...
