Overall the stay at Cherry Tree was great. Most of the staff we encountered were kind and incredibly helpful. However, there was an incident during our stay when one of the housekeepers decided that yelling obscenities very loudly for about two hours was a good idea. She also was slamming doors of rooms. We booked a stay for the weekend and were taking a siesta around noon (maybe she thought most rooms were empty given the time of day) when she started yelling about everything from the vacuum cleaner to linens not being available to complaining about not having enough time to have rooms ready. At first, we thought it was a group of kids (which is why we ignored it and turned the music on to drown it out while we napped) but once I was woken up again and tuned into what was being said I realized it was an employee of the hotel. I then went out to the hallway to confirm that it was indeed an employee. I called the front desk immediately and shortly after the phone call the yelling calmed down. There were a few other small things said quite loudly but for the most part it stopped. The thought of having someone like this with a key to every room was concerning. It also made us extremely uncomfortable even having to pass her in the hallway since she seemed so on edge and ready to yell again. Again - the rooms were clean, the view was beautiful, breakfast was filling and everyone else was great but this interaction put a damper on the experience and created a tense situation. I would like to visit Cherry Tree again but am a little apprehensive given the situation.

I don't know HOW this is only considered a 2 star hotel. It's much nicer than that, and so far, this is our FAVORITE place to stay in Traverse City. It's right on the beach, the staff is super friendly and very helpful. My mom was with us, so we asked for a handicap accessible room. What an awesome room they gave us! It's room #120 and it's on the edge of a row of rooms. It's on the beach, double doors that open up to a small patio with 2 chairs on it. (It's the patio on the left in the photos.) The photo of the walkways was taken on the side of the building that our room was in. The beach isn't that big, but it's nice and clean. The room had 2 queen beds and was rather large. Nice wide screen TV with lots of cable channels. The bathroom was impressive, large for wheelchair access. Very handicap-accessible. Lots of bars in the shower as well as a bench that could be folded down for sitting or left up for standing. Blowdryer provided. Their complimentary soaps and shampoos are Bee Kind. Many other amenities that I can't remember, but definitely worth the money. They have an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna. We used the pool and hot tub. What a treat! It's open 24/7. The bad thing about this area, though, is there are rooms overlooking the area, so at night you've got to be on the quiet side. The complimentary breakfast was yummy...eggs, sausage, muffins, pastries, bagels, waffle machine, fruit, tea, coffees, juices...you name it, they've got it. Very impressive how much variety they offer at breakfast. I can't say enough good things about them. :)

We stayed at Cherry Tree Inn from August 7–11 in room 322, and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing overall. The website advertised “newly renovated” rooms, but upon arrival it was clear ours was not. The front desk confirmed that 50 of the 76 rooms were remodeled in 2019, and it is obvious ours predates that work. The room showed significant wear and tear, including a rusty nail sticking up through the carpet that cut my son’s foot. The bathroom granite was worn and there was black mold in both sinks. The property itself also needs attention. Torn umbrellas and missing tiles in the hot tub, and the beach was never cleaned in the mornings. Each day we found trash and used towels from the night before, and grooming was done mid-morning, right as children were already playing, at which point we were asked to leave the sand. Service was also disappointing. We had requested morning housekeeping because our children nap in the afternoons, but our request was declined due to a cutoff we were not aware of. Even after confirming Sunday morning housekeeping, it never happened. That means in our five days here, our room was never cleaned. I have also never stayed at a hotel where towels are not brought to your room and guests must visit the front desk to get them. After sharing our experience and feedback with the general manager, Amy, she did credit us one night’s stay, which we appreciate. I’m still sharing this review to make others aware that not all rooms at the property are newly remodeled, despite what the website may suggest.

Honestly, it is hard to find a place to start this review. I am tempted not to review because of the old saying about not having anything nice to say…but I really don't want anyone else wasting their money at this terrible location in such a wonderful city. We recently stayed at this property with our family of 4. 2 adults and 2 kids. We love T.C. and read through many reviews before selecting this location. We are shocked at how well this place is reviewed compared to our own experience. Many people talk about cleanliness at this location, but that could not be any farther from the truth. Everything seemed to feel and appear dirty and dingy and run down. Especially the common spaces. Luckily the rooms seemed to be only slightly more attended to with regard to cleanliness, but still far from great.

We also were okay in paying the relatively high price that is required here, because we were hopeful that the amenities would be worth it. However, the pools were not well maintained, the hot tubs seemed dirty with a hint of yellow/brown color to the water, the poolside bathroom was very, very dirty and uncomfortable to be in, there was a mouse running around the outside pool, the beach never seemed attended to, the seating areas in the lobby were dull and uninviting, the hotel shop was underwhelming to say the least, the lobby and staircases reeked of smoke, the breakfast was not good (we left for breakfast even though it was included), the staff did not act welcoming and did not seem eager to help the customers with anything. The fridge in our room died in the middle of the night causing all of our food to spoil and have to be thrown out. They were very difficult in acknowledging this and made it difficult to get reimbursed for the lost food.

We felt like prisoners in this hotel. This made it very hard to enjoy a family trip. The general staff including the GM, Arrow, seemed uninterested and rude. Nothing was good. It is sad that this place is so expensive and so well reviewed (it seems that many of these reviews are fake/planted)

PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR...

We were very disappointed with our stay. It was our first family trip since having our second child. We booked a king size bed and was told we would face the parking lot which was fine since we booked the room a few weeks before our trip. We also brought our own pack and play. The room they put us in was like a dungeon and the window looked out into the indoor pool. After returning from dinner after only checking in a few hours prior, our room had a horrible chemical smell that after a few minutes began burning our eyes and throats. I told the front desk about it and they were great, doing what they could to assist. They were able to get us an upgraded room the following nights for $40 a night. It seems like this may be something that happens often because they did not seemed surprised and did not say sorry or anything. They put an ionizer in our room and said it would take an hour and a half so we had to take our two young exhausted kids out driving around to let them sleep. They put a box fan in our room that night and our son coughed all night. I have asthma and was up all night with issues breathing. Our stay consisted of two different rooms both which had dirty bathrooms and need to be cleaned better. Even the lobby was dirty the whole time we were there. We ended up having to check out early as our son got sick the following night with an upper respiratory infection. Kids get sick but I am sure the chemical smell did not help. Overall, the staff is very friendly and helpful and working with what they have. I would not recommend staying here especially for the price and with kids. It is not worth it! I was told even by a staff member that they “hate room 101.” That room should not be used for guests!! Whatever chemicals they are putting in the pool/hot tub is venting into that room. Location is beautiful and if you stay in a first floor walkout room it is better. Still dirty but better as our room had a screen, we could get fresh air and walk out to the beach. We would not...

Look at recent reviews before you book. I booked a year ago for a family get-together, and the review rating was higher (it still is, but it's already falling after this summer) than nearly everywhere nearby including the Grand Traverse Bay Resort, so I had high hopes. But now, they've obviously slipped tremendously and I was very disappointed. As nearly everyone recently said, the rooms are dirty and nearly uncleaned. It takes a lot of avoiding cleaning a room to actually have cobwebs and dust accumulate on our nightstand lamp. There were cigarette butts on my patio, despite being a non-smoking hotel. Guests smoked cigarettes and weed, and while the front desk did their best to address this issue at the time, the fact that people staying here felt like they could ignore the signage (and NORMAL hotel rule in 2023) that smoking wasn't allowed, says a lot. Our shower wasn't fully clean, with sand and grime in the corners. The showerhead had hard water residue on it and some sprayers were clogged. The floors were filthy. The bath fan didn't work the first day, but miraculously began working on the second day. Our pull-out bed wasn't made up, so I had to go to the front desk when I was planning to go to sleep, ask for linens, and make the bed myself. The breakfast was underwhelming with only 2 types of cereal available, yogurt to scoop out of a bowl (with no sneeze guard) versus individual cups, and only basic breakfast items. When I arrived around 8:00 in the evening after a long drive with kids, there was a sign on the front desk indicating they'd stepped away, but it took a good 10 minutes before I could find anyone to check me in. We booked this hotel for its location right on a beach on the bay, and that did not disappoint. The view was great and ease of walking out our patio door to play on the beach with kids was awesome. But, I cannot recommend this place with how gross it was. For $400+ a night hotel resort, it felt like...
