Decent Food, But Service and Maintenance Need Serious Attention
I recently visited Genghis Grill, which follows a “build your own bowl” concept similar to Flat Top Grill (both owned by the same company). While the food was decent, the service—especially from one key staff member—and the lack of maintenance left a lot to be desired.
The Food: The food is decent, not great. The “build your own bowl” idea is fun, offering a variety of proteins, vegetables, and sauces to choose from. Be careful with the hot sauces—they can make your bowl extremely spicy very quickly. Portion sizes are generous; even the largest bowl, which looks small when empty, ends up being quite big once filled and cooked.
The Service: The main issue was the front-of-house experience, specifically with the gentleman managing the greeting and payment process. He seemed to be in his own world, acting as though what he was doing was fine, but it was clear he didn’t understand customer service.
When I mentioned it was my first visit, his explanation of how the process worked felt minimal and dismissive, almost like I was supposed to figure it out myself. He spent a lot of time walking around aimlessly or staring at his phone while customers waited for assistance. For example, a family with a stroller came in, and instead of approaching to help them, he called out to them from across the room, leaving them looking confused.
When I paid for my meal, he disappeared immediately afterward without so much as a “thank you” or “have a good day.” It’s a small gesture, but it matters—it’s the last impression you leave with your customers.
On top of all this, his hygiene was concerning, as he coughed openly multiple times without covering his mouth. It felt like he thought he was doing everything right but missed the mark entirely on providing a welcoming and professional customer experience.
The Maintenance: The restaurant itself also had noticeable issues. The outdoor door was broken, the urinal in the restroom wasn’t working, and the overall upkeep felt neglected. It gave the impression that the place isn’t being managed properly.
Final Thoughts: The food and concept are solid if you enjoy the Flat Top Grill style of dining. However, this location is held back by poor service and a lack of attention to basic maintenance. With better staff training and some much-needed repairs, it could be a great spot. For now, though, it’s hard...
Read moreI have always seen the sign for Genghis Grill but it never stopped to actually eat there. The minute we walked in we were greeted by friendly people and asked for a quiet table. We were placed somewhat close to the grill area and although it appeared to have a bar area around the grill I was surprised that they did not have bar stools around it so people could watch them cook and eat there also. If it all possible this would be a suggestion to upper management or corporate. The waiter came promptly and asked us what we would like to drink and when he returned he asked us what kind of bowl we would like. After bringing us back are bowls to go select are ingredients we proceeded to the line of freshly prepared meat vegetables sauces and spices. Since there was so many sauces to choose from I asked one of the waiters what he would suggest. He told me that the honey something and the g something tasted very good and was probably the most popular. I do favor chicken and tried a little bit of the shredded beef then picked out all my favorite vegetables. When the bowls were delivered to our tables we ate leisurely and our drinks were refilled when needed. The entire experience was awesome and we will definitely return again and again. Last but not least the prices are very affordable and even with a tip the two of us ate for around $30 hours. If you have not been to Genghis Grill then please try it today and you will be...
Read moreRestaurant is bare minimum. Have been to several and this one looks like trash. Ceiling above bar is a free hang, understand that, do not understand why its lower on a corner like its about to fall. Fixtures throughout restaurant are rusty, ex: screws, door handles, food bar.... this is not part of decor, its actual rust. All that was noticed before even being seated. Wife had time to use restroom and return before waitress came to greet us at door. Only 3 tables had patrons of parties less than 3, and 2 people at bar. Now during that time their was 2 employees barback, 4 in kitchen, waitress came from beside bar. And no idea of how many employess in back. Floors sticky throughout the place, tables not wiped down but were clear of dishes. Waitress did not ask if we knew how the store worked or said how it goes after son made comment he never been to one before. Now trays to set your things on by food area were on a storage shelf by kitchen/backroom door that didnt know if were clean, dirty, or stored. Now food was good. Inside and outside store presentations were bad. You just had to know thats what you lookin for. Cleanliness was bad. Store organization was bad. Time to recognize patrons bad. Only good customer service skills was waitress. Cook staff looked lost and disorganized cause they couldnt find oil, pen...
