The indoor dining area was a little dark so we decided to eat outside. They do have a full bar. I love the patio garden dining area, which is a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. We started off with The Adobe Margarita, which was so refreshing and chips & salsa was good. It has a bit of spice!
The WOW factor is this Molcajete (for 2) with an amazingly delicious guajillo pepper red sauce, which I put on EVERYTHING!! It comes to the table bubbling hot! Although, I would have liked for it to stay bubbling hot a little longer. It’s filled with steak, chicken, shrimp, panela cheese, fresh cactus leaf, chorizo and grilled onions. I would have preferred for the onions to not be on top (there was a lot of them) and for the steak to show more instead of being buried. I would have liked a better presentation (from other Molcajetes I’ve had).
The Cochinita Pibil is a slow-roasted Yucatán-style pork that’s wrapped in banana leaves. I would have liked the banana leaves for presentation. It was tender but nothing about it wowed me.
Service was a little slow even though it was not too busy. We didn’t get our water refilled throughout our whole meal. And, it took awhile to...
Read moreI have to echo the sentiments of other recent reviewers after eating here last night. We also spent $80 on the most underwhelming Mexican food we've had in a really long time. Flavorless, bland beans. Boring shrimp cocktail with like three shrimp in it. Boring vegetables. The only good-tasting thing was the grilled Halibut, but even then it wasn't worth $25 for the serving size and bland sides it came with. The mojitos were equally unimpressive and a weak pour at $12 a drink. Add to the fact we were ignored for so long upon arrival, and that we were never offered water or chips, we will never go back. Some in our group who arrived 20 minutes prior to me were still waiting on their drinks when I got there, and still had not gotten their drinks by the time my drink arrived, so clearly their orders had been forgotten. Hands down the worst $80 I've spent in a long time. I will say they have a great outdoor space, especially if you have a big group, but stick to beer or wine at happy hour and eat dinner before you arrive. In fact, some in our party had been here several times before and they did just that — ate dinner elsewhere prior to arrival because they knew what it was like here! That speaks volumes if you ask me. The setting is nice, it's dog-friendly, and I'd love to seem them succeed, but they have a lot...
Read moreAgoura's charming little secret hideaway for relaxing with friends and family and enjoying a margarita with a delicious meal!
Friends coming from the Valley/West Side always complain that I've dragged them "all the way out to Agoura" for dinner, until they enjoy a visit to the Adobe Cantina- then they end up suggesting it for our next meet up! Conveniently right off the freeway, it's set peacefully against the beautiful backdrop of Ladyface Mountain, under a canopy of giant trees with exotic birds singing.
DON'T TELL THEM that their prices are way too low for the warm friendly service, unbeatable enchiladas and fajitas, and charming environment that this Agoura gem offers. I've been thoroughly enjoying this little secret hideaway for over 20 years now, and don't want it to change one bit! Lunch or dinner here never fails to cause me to forget my worries, and I always leave with a smile on my face.
Invite a friend you haven't seen for a while for lunch, and eat slowly. Savor it. Build a memory. This is the...
