We live close to Plata, we are regular customers at Plata. Yesterday we had a really uncomfortable situation with one of the waitresses. I do not know her name, but this is the third time I experienced the same waitress being beyond rude. The first time I went with one of my friends, last night I went with my family. Every time nothing seems to be the cause of her attitude, this is how she is and is being allowed to be while servicing Plata customers. I always think that you should be doing what you are passionate for, this is why I think she should not be close to any customer.
I will only focus on what we experienced yesterday, as this time I was with my kids who also noticed the same as us, that truly bothered me to the point I want to share this experience. The moment we got to our table the waitress was in a really bad mood rushing us to order to the point of being mean and rude to my daughter because she was not ready to let her know what she would order. The waitress asked my son, and so in a rude manner, I would say, VERY rude. She did not ask my daughter about her order anymore so I had to remind her to please add something for my daughter. We were asked about the food before our drinks, we did not even get the chips and salsa as usual. We were asked about our food in such a rush not even 3 minutes being seated. When I asked if we could order drinks first she rolled her eyes, … why? What was wrong in this request?..you guessed right, absolutely NOTHING, she is just hysterical we guessed. We asked if we could order guacamole from the happy hours, AGAIN she rolled her eyes and was rushing us to let her know if that was all asking 3 times, why? Again, nonsense. When she came back with the drinks I asked if we could have straws, our drinks were four, she gave us 2 straws. I asked if we could have 2 more straws. At that point she tossed the straws on our table, upset and asked something about the appetizer. She was mad, of what.. Who knows, we can care less, we were just paying the price of her hysterical and nasty attitude. My kids asked me what was wrong with her. At that moment I stood up and asked the hostess to please change the server, or we could move to any table not assigned to her.
After that, everything was GREAT. We had Marciel as our waiter, sooo nice and kind. Another lady came to check on us and make sure everything was ok, she may have been a supervisor, again.. just nice people, thank you. There was no apology, but I did not find it necessary, to make the change to a respectful staff was all we needed.
I do not know her name, but if you ever go through this -I hope not- the staff will be helpful making sure you get another waitress and feel comfortable enjoying your food. Thank you guys!
I want to share this also specially as I met the owner a few days after Plata was open, after that we chatted with him on a few occasions. The level of customer service and care Ramon manifests to us every time he is around is the opposite of what this waitress has for us. This should not be what any family experiences.
I tried to excuse her, the place was more than half empty, not usual as Plata gets busy.. Still, even if crazy busy this should not be a reason to mistreat customers. If I am writing this review it is because it was beyond unacceptable, rude, condescending. We will not stop going to Plata, however we hope nobody experiences this. We hope this lady can be happy, we think she is far from what we have seen, but we always wish best...
Read moreFirst with the positive. If you are looking for a casual place, with plenty of space to meet or regroup with friends, share some drinks, at the bar or outdoor tables, have some tortillas and a jar 🫙or two of store bought salsa, this is the place. The service staff is nice, friendly and easy going, some are in "training" so give them some slack and tip them, they are trying!. Now for 'The' Buts. (Feb 2024) If you are looking for good, well prepared Mexican food, SKIP this one (maybe until summer?) The Food quality has gone down in quality, l would rate it now, as truly "Institutional". It wasn't like that at all, in the years past. Though the tortillas are crispy baked (and super salty) the salsa is from a jar. (So l say, reasonable for the "tip" cost) -The tortilla soup, it sure was just a bowl full of thin out, warmed up, canned "enchilada sauce" with some crushed tortillas on top and what seem to be few strips of string cheese, that's it! ... the chicken? it flew past the pot! and l think even the server was scared to put that in front of someone, who he knew was old enough to have tried many mexican soups in their lifetime. He just had a look of true embarrassment. I felt sad for both of us. Will spare you the description of the rest of the plate, which l couldn't finish after 2 mouthfuls despite the hunger and while thinking the scramble eggs l could have at home, would just be much better for my digestive system. Let's just finish the food review, with a warning, 😕eat at your own risk! 4- The price, let's just add, it was a "highly" rated, unplanned donation to the work force that's trying to come back and help CA eateries. 5- I will 'evaluate' the need or not, to posting my pictures. ( The managers might need a break to improve it's presentation, just as well to skip it for now).
Btw. My review comes from caring to be fair. 3 chefs in the family, we've done catering, have worked in restaurant and food services. So yes. We eat almost everything and try anything that is digestible, but it is when one has to pay as a consumer (our hard earn $) that one has an obligation to rate it all plus the food quality, It's after all, a well thought choice when going into a restaurant Vs a...
Read moreHad dinner at Plata with Friends, and accidentally left my jacket, I called in that night and gave a full description of my jacket, the gentleman found it and said he would hold it for me so I could pick it up the next day. Went back the next day and the host said there were no jackets and blew me off. As I continued to stand around the host finally admitted there are two jackets in the office, but wouldn't bring them out to me. Finally after 15 minutes she only brought out one, a cheap one and said there was a Calvin Klein jacket in the office but it was the managers. Funny, my jacket was a Calvin Klein. I walked to the back and the manager was talking to two other people and I could see it was going well, they were extremely put out that I wasn't leaving without my jacket. The Manager walked up to me and was extremely rude and told me, the 2nd jacket in the office was his and said” Honey you can't have my jacket," WHAT.. I just wanted my jacket, come to find out he is the owner... and his next comment to me was if the jacket was so important to me I should have came back that same night. So, I guess if you don't come back the same day to pick up anything you left, the owner makes the decision to keep it for himself. He was so rude and didn't even try to help me, he just spoke down to me as if I meant nothing to him regardless of me being a client of his restaurant, I have spends hundreds/thousands at his restaurant. Clearly he does care….because he has a very successful restaurant, So, hopefully you will never have to deal with the owners because he doesn’t care and on top of it he humiliated me in front of multi people in the restaurant. Thank god a wonderful young man jumped in and cared enough about me, he listened and guess what found my jacket and it wasn't the owners...it was mine... NOT THE OWNERS TO KEEP.. very disappointed on how the owner the blond host handled this and what they put me through for almost 30 minutes. No apology from the owner nor the host. I will miss the wonderful waiter’s but I can’t support a business with a...
