All in all, this is an impressive small business. My husband & I stopped in on a Saturday night and didn't have to wait for a table. But shortly after we arrived, the place was filled up. We were greeted immediately, had a nice cozy booth, and were brought waters right away by the man who turned out to be the owner.
Our server was the only one there, but you would never have known. She brought us drinks quickly (I was pleased there was an NA beer option, and she made my husband a raspberry tea with the bar puree which made him happy), took our orders shortly thereafter, and we never waited for anything we needed. She was very friendly too!
We ordered 2 apps, 1 build your own (salmon) burger, and the steak. The fried green tomatos were phenomenal - the goat cheese really hit home - as was the ahi tuna, which was served with a FRIED AVOCADO. Each bite with some of that avocado, tuna, and jalapeño was phenomenal. We ordered kimchi Mac and cheese too because it sounded cool, and it absolutely was. Old Bay fries were out of this world. The BYO has TONS of options for different things to put on your sandwich. They put a pad of paper down on the tables that has all the options, and we just filled it out and sent it back with the server.
The service was super efficient. They had the server, bartender, food runner, and owner, who was out on the floor handling every little thing and actively supporting his staff. There was a little wait for the apps after we ordered, but it wasn't exhausting, and honestly, with the food being so good, it makes sense and was well worth it. Way better than microwaved spinach dip from a chain.
To sum it all up, I was seriously impressed with Barrelhouse. We chatted with the owner, who said they've only been open since August, so the fact that everything was so smooth was a great testament to how well the place is run. I highly recommend it for a date night - just the right kind of ambiance for something that is casual but still an upscale, welcoming, low-key atmosphere. We will definitely be back next time we're...
Read moreI have been here about 3 times since ownership changed. The prior 9 years I have been going have been perfect and also the few times I have been after the switch have also been good! However this time I have never felt more disrespected. I was sitting at the bar showing my company a 20 sec video on my phone and during that 20 seconds a worker that wasn't my bartender came over and ask me to turn ot down. I have no problem with that but from that point the server was rude. I ask her directly was there and issue with me and she said that she had a problem with the volume on my phone. The staff also showed us after the fact a sign located high on the wall near the ceiling about phone volume. My response was sorry I didn't see that sign and the next response from the staff was " it's on the menue aswell" .. I then informed them that I never had a menu since I only order a drink and didn't order food. Moving forward from that point I had trouble using Apple pay and there server literally treated like and idiot. Everything eventually got figured out and I still made sure I tipped her more that fair. After leaving one of the guys came outside because I left my phone cord in the establishment. After he returned it to me we had a conversation that I appreciated. I explained to him how I felt about the situation and he seemed receptive. That waitress on the other hand should truly get a grip on customer service. Her issues felt personal. I will not return to this...
Read moreDon't go for brunch!!! They only have two brunch options with eggs. One is eggs benedict on crab cakes, and one is an omelet with Boursin cheese and potato chips. I asked if I could substitute a different cheese and or add sausage/bacon and was told no we do not do that. Keep in mind there were only four customers in the building at the time. I verified that they did indeed have eggs, cheese, and sausage in the kitchen. They just were not willing to put in the extra effort even though I was more than willing to pay whatever upcharge they deemed fair. Don't advertise brunch and have only one omelet available, especially one that is overly pretentious and will not appeal to a mass audience. This is the first restaurant I have ever been to that was not willing to make minor changes to a menu item. This area does not have many Sunday brunch options available, so we were excited for a new place. We are excited no more. Brunch without breakfast food is called lunch. That being said food was good, and they did a great job of keeping drinks flowing. I would go for lunch or drinks for sure,...
