I had seen some reviews where service could be spotty, but not today. Woody, our server, was on his game, friendly and efficient. He continually checked on our table and kept the morning coffee coming. On a Wednesday morning, there was no wait for a table, and there was no issue when we added two more to our group after being seated. This is a nice diner. The walls are decorated with photos of Akron history. The place was clean and inviting. They have some specials that deviate from your normal breakfast options, which is good. I ordered the Thin Lizzy omelet. This is made with two eggs, chopped bell pepper and cheese. The omelet was a little underseasoned, but a few shakes of hot sauce made all the difference. This was served with their potato browns and sourdough toast. Both potato and toast were very good. The food came out of the kitchen quickly and hot. Eye opener met my expectations and more.

Ordered the morning sunshade with a side cup of sausage gravy. The omelet was ok, the fried potatoes were excellent, and the sausage gravy was blah. The sausage gravy was definitely from a can. It had little flavor and barley any sausage chunks. The staff was nice and friendly. The aesthetics of the place was dirty. The back long bench had stains everywhere on it, and the bench had rips in it. Under the tables had duck tape on them and definitely had not been wiped down in a very long time. The mens bathroom was out of paper towels. If I was in that neighborhood, I might stop back, but there is nothing exciting that would make me drive just to have a bite to eat.

My friend and I enjoy trying out local breakfast restaurants, so we decided to try out Eye Opener yesterday, 03/12/22! The restaurant was spacious, and the staff was friendly. I ordered The Morning Sunshine Omelette with a side of bacon. The food was tasty and affordable. Naturally, the restaurant was busy. Because of this, it took time to get refills on beverages, which is totally understandable, considering it was a Saturday morning! Even though the restaurant was busy, we did not have to wait for a table, which was awesome. I will definitely come back and support this business in the future!

So I genuinely think this is one of the best brunch spots in the entire city of Akron. Why did I give it four stars out of five? Well let me start off by saying the service has always been consistently good. No matter who I have had as a server they've been incredible. The food is very good and consistent. No matter what I order. If I order it multiple times it always comes out the same way and it's just as good. The reason that I take off a star is because there have been a few instances in which I've noticed some operational problems. Basically meaning that the systems they have in place to run the restaurant probably could stand some revision. A perfect example is today. I was very well aware that I was going on a Sunday and I expected it to be busy. I was seated and was immediately told by the server that it would be a 40-minute wait once I put my order in because they were down a cook and the kitchen was short-staffed. That creates a problem in that the vasting majority of people are going to be okay with waiting for a table but once they're seated they expect that the amount of time between placing the order and getting their food will be the same that it always has been. What I probably would have done as the owner or manager. Once I figured out that my kitchen was going to be short was I would have cut a server. Because now the servers that are there are going to make half the amount of money that they normally would have. Because their tables are going to turn about 50% slower if not even slower. So the tips they make are going down. If you cut a server and don't seat the section, most customers will understand. When you say our kitchen is short-staffed. We'd much rather you get your food fast consistently and good than make you wait. Most people would understand. Even the server that was cut would understand because by keeping your entire staff you're decreasing the amount of money that they make. In that case, everybody would be happier if they would make the normal amount of money. That they would make on a Sunday afternoon. I've witnessed similar issues where I would just kind of watch and go. Why the heck are they doing things that way? I don't know if that's something that comes from management or if the procedures are something that directly comes from the amazingly nice person and woman that owns the restaurant. But my recommendation is to review the policies and procedures and make sure when you run into instances where you're short-staffed you have contingency plans. How you handle it? What you do. Because in the end your customers are your lifeblood. Customers that are happier tip more which makes the servers happier which makes the servers do...

This place is a dumpster fire. We had nothing but bad experiences years ago, and decided to give it a try on 8/31/24. Huge mistake. We waited for about 5 min before being seated, no problem. We placed our order and Sat and watched people come and go before we got our food. Our waiter never came and checked. We actually sat for over an hour and no food arrived. When we pointed this out to our waiter he had no answers. As soon as we got up to leave (without being served) the waiter brought my food, my daughters food and told us that they ran out of the food that my wife ordered. Flabbergasted! He dropped the two plates at the table told us they ran out of ingredients for the third meal, and offered nothing. He didn't ask if there was anything else we wanted or apologies for the terrible service. So we walked out. No explanations no, no food. No anything. The restaurant wasn't even busy. Our waiter was absolutely terrible. This is the reason we stopped coming there for years. We tried to give it another shot and this was by far the worst experience my wife and I have ever had in a restaurant. We eat out all the time and I review restaurants on Google maps. I'm always fair and don't trash any restaurants because I understand people's jobs and businesses are at stake. I've reviewed hundreds of places in Akron and all over the county. This was the absolute worst. If you're asking I would say to stay away from this place, but that is just my opinion. I will never step foot inside of this place again. On top of all of that chaos the place is dirty. Reading other reviews it seems this is par for the course with this restaurant. I also witnessed the beagle my daughter ordered sitting in the service window for about ten minutes while the staff talked over all of the food which is totally not acceptable in the climate we live in now. Not sure how they made it through COVID. The owner or manager need to take a good look at the staff and the way...

My wife and I decided to visit this spot for the first time on a Sunday (day before Valentine's Day) at around 11 am. We were seated quickly. Not the cleanest place, as others have said, but nothing egregious. Mimosa was delicious, coffee was standard fare but good. If you like being warm while you eat, maybe wait until a table opens up towards the back of the restaurant, because it gets chilly when patrons open that front door and that blast of winter air hits your legs. We left our coats on the whole time as did many others. Owner should consider installing an air curtain to fix this. Case in point, when I looked at their thermostat, it was set at 81, but showed a cool room temp of 69 degrees. Food took a while to arrive, but they were pretty busy. Our server was nice and did a good job. My wife's EO Breakfast Bowl with ham was good, with big pieces of potatoes that made for a fairly large portion. My Red Eye Hash included their delicious corned beef and spicy, but smaller portion of potatoes with green chiles. I'm a spicy foods fan, so, to me, the EO Bowl needed hot sauce (they had Tabasco and Cholula on the table - nice), but the hash was perfection as-is. We ended up ordering the blueberry pancakes to share at the end. They were nothing special, and the regular syrup that accompanied them did not come heated up. There is an option to choose real maple syrup for an upcharge. A warm, clean dining room and some warm syrup with less waiting would have made this a five star review. That said, we would definitely go again, and, as much as I'd like to try something new, the hash is probably what I'll be ordering. It...
