Swensons Drive-In — Restaurant in Akron

I'm not one to complain and leave reviews. I really only leave reviews if I want to recommend something. But I went to swensons on Hawkins tonight and the whole experience was absolutely terrible. I've been here many times before and honestly I've never had an issue. So im not sure if it's the group of workers that worked tonight or if you all were short staffed or what. I ordered my food at 10:25 pm. Lady on the phone said 15- 20 minutes. I got there in 20ish minutes. Food isn't ready. Ok. No big deal. I wait about another 30 minutes. Nothing. I turn my lights on to ask where the food is. A gentleman said he would check on it and see what's going on. He never showed back up. So eventually at 11:45 I turned my lights back on to ask about the food. I was very polite. I said I know you all are very busy tonight but I've been waiting an hour and 15 minutes for our food and I need to get home so im going to cancel my order. Well, the lady that came up to the car had my food in her hand and asked if I still wanted it. I said yes. Well I paid, left a tip and got home ( im 4 minutes away ) Yall, the food was not even edible, honestly. My potato teasters and mushrooms were so soggy and barely warm. They tasted like they had been sitting in a basket for an hour. I then took a bite of my burger. There was no cheese on it and that too was barely warm and tasted like it was just sitting around wrapped up for an hour. The bun actually tasted stale. I didn't eat it, unfortunately and i wasted over an hour of my time and 30 dollars I would have gladly spent somewhere else if I knew how horrible the food was going to turn out.

A Full-Circle Experience — Swensons Is Back and Better Than Ever

I first discovered Swensons Drive-In shortly after moving to Ohio about five years ago, and it quickly became a favorite. The food was consistently delicious, the staff friendly, and the whole experience felt like a treat every time. I went often — until something shifted. A year or two later, the quality seemed to dip: the food, the energy, even the staff. I stopped going altogether.

Fast forward to last week, I decided to give it another shot. I was helped by Brayden Griffin, who told me he’s been with Swensons for about 3.5 years. I shared my story with him — how I hadn’t been back in years because it just wasn’t the same — and he promised to do his best to restore my faith in the place.

And he absolutely delivered.

I came back three nights in a row, and each time was better than the last. The food was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I remembered — maybe even better. The staff was upbeat, welcoming, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. Brayden and the team brought back everything I loved about Swensons: simple, satisfying meals and a fun, friendly atmosphere that makes you want to return.

I was home visiting this past weekend I grew up eating Swensons so when I moved to. Georgia 8 years ago I have made Swensons my first stop upon arriving in town from the airport. However this last visit has left me so disappointed and angry on how the issue was resolved. I ordered the famous Gallyboy and to my surprise I questioned what kind of burger it actually was once we arrived to our our hotel. I t was burnt and crispy around the edges. And had no sign of the Gallyboys I’ve had in the past. I called and informed them about my burger and my Son drove back to get another one. And it was softer around the edges but still very burnt in appearance because it was late at night I took a couple bites and ate a couple of cold fries and went to sleep with thoughts I would address it in the morning. However because I’m in town for a short time I ran out of time to go back and take the food back for a third time. I was told someone was new in the kitchen? But if that’s the case they need to find the original recipe or no longer sale what’s supposed to be. Gallyboy. Signed so disappointed with what used to be my favorite...
