I chose this place for Thanksgiving based on the menu and positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience fell far short of expectations.
To start, our waitress was absolutely awful, and I don’t say that lightly. When we asked if they had an alcohol menu, she dismissed us with a curt “No, just wine and beer,” and an attitude that made us feel stupid for even asking. That condescending tone carried through every interaction, making an already disappointing evening worse.
For appetizers, we ordered calamari and fried deviled eggs. The calamari was a disaster—it tasted like frozen pieces dumped in a fryer, and the accompanying aioli was bland and uninspired. It was honestly some of the worst calamari I’ve ever had; we left most of it untouched. The fried deviled eggs had potential, as the filling was tasty, but the fried coating ruined the dish. They would’ve been much better served as traditional deviled eggs.
For our main course, I ordered the turkey leg confit, and my boyfriend chose the spiral ham. The menu wasn’t clear on whether sides were included, so we asked our waitress. Once again, she responded with that “you should already know this” attitude, informing us sides came with the dishes.
When the food arrived, the turkey leg confit was flavorful but sadly cold and a bit over fried. Definitely not what you want in a holiday meal. The spiral ham, however, was the standout—it was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor.
By this time, the kids were done eating, and I asked if they had plain vanilla ice cream for dessert. What followed was baffling. The waitress explained that their vanilla ice cream was house-made and could only be ordered as part of a dessert. That seemed reasonable, so I asked if I could order a dessert and add an extra scoop of ice cream. This simple request seemed to frustrate her even more, and she flat-out refused.
At this point, we were over it, the good vibes we came in with were gone and the kids were starting to want to go home. So we decided to ask to take desserts to-go. When we asked to order the toffee cake, pumpkin bread, and chocolate peanut butter cake, the waitress told us—again with a condescending tone—that only certain desserts could be taken to-go. Her explanation didn’t make much sense, but I don't argue with people that don’t want to make money, and gave up tryin to make sense of why, we were over it
We ended up with two desserts instead of three, and not the ones we initially wanted. However, I will say the desserts we did try were fantastic. The crème brûlée cheesecake was incredible—rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. The chocolate peanut butter cake was equally amazing, with bold, indulgent flavors. These desserts were the saving grace of the meal and the reason I gave an extra star instead of just one.
Overall, the food had its moments, but the service left a terrible impression. I’m sad we didn’t get to try the pumpkin dessert or the butter toffee cake, as they sounded amazing. Unfortunately, the poor attitude of our waitress overshadowed what could’ve been a much better dining experience especially on...
Read moreAs I sit in my home with my feet crossed at the ankles typing this review with glee wishing for a midnight snack thinking where do I begin. Ok So I found Alaska chopped and chowder on my recommendation list so I said “why not” even though I’m not a chowder guy. First the fact this place is reservation only (just for now so relax) made my lady do a little gig in her seat because she just loves to dress up, I personally throw on some lululemon and call it a day lol So we booked a 3 o’clock time and got ourselves ready for a new experience. So on first looks this place looks like a Greek architect Was brought Back from the past to chisel it out by hand while the city slept. On entry I was greeted but immediately realized the menu I seen online wasn’t the menu they were showing in front of me. It was a “Lunch” menu and my stomach was set for the steak with the peppercorn sauce. Was I disappointed? Yes but the ambience alone kept my cup half full not half empty. As my lady and I sit I love how the walls are high because most restaurants make them eye level and it gets weird sometimes if someone eats with their mouth open or smacks lol So I look at the menu and immediately see 3 options that’s warm me up in my seat. Option A was the mouth watering thin sliced chopped chop cheese that would make any post workout power lifter click his heels and rub his stomach, option B was the The Lamb-Burgini! Makes you feel like a seasoned archer living in the hills of Beverly with dream to live off the grid. And my final option was option C the halibut burger. My lady took the The Lamb-Burgini and I took the halibut. Now when my burger came out I looked, spint the plate around and assembled. Add a little extra tater and took my first bite. Now when I tell you the little person inside of me stood up and walked to the kitchen to shake the cooks hand and the physical part of me just looked at the burger as if I never had a fried halibut burger before! The freshness, the consistency, the way it doesn’t fall apart in the butter soft bun it’s almost like a “York peppermint commercial” you jumped in the ocean, catch the fish yourself with you hands and prepared it to the perfect temperature with just the right amount of seasoning, yes that fresh! My lady whose appetite is usually limited couldn’t figure out how to talk in between putting the The Lamb-Burgini down and picking up fries fried to perfection. As we sat there we both agreed this can’t be real and we want to try again in the best way so we made dinner reservations as we sat there. Service is great on entering and leaving it felt as if they really appreciated you coming. Well That’s all for now and I’ll follow up with my dinner review later this week. As of now 10/10 highly recommended to a local or out of...
Read moreOverall, the food was a bit unseasoned and the prices are pretty high. The service and atmosphere were amazing though! Anna was a great server and knew the menu very well. We went for our anniversary and they even decorated the table with a bit of confetti! Below is a detailed review of what we ate:
Stuffed Mushrooms (appetizer): 8.5/10 This was surprisingly one of the best items we had. Very flavorful and cooked extremely well.
Fried Halibut Bites (appetizer): 7/10 The halibut was so fresh and the tartar sauce was the perfect balance. The breading was good and it wasn’t that oily. The fish and sauce just needed a little bit more salt and possibly pepper on the fish. Wished it was a bit more crunchy but I would still recommend if halibut is in season.
Chowder Flight (left to right: seafood, salmon, and UK): 6/10 We really liked the seafood one but the salmon one was our least favorite. The UK one (I can’t remember what the actual name is) has a more soupy consistency but was more preferable. Granted, it was our first time having salmon like that so we probably weren’t used to it. Oyster crackers definitely are a must. The flight is only $9 though so still worth a good deal and it was the cheapest item we purchased.
Scallop Carbonara: 4/10 This was my main course, and I was sadly disappointed by it. My noodles were over cooked and I wished my scallops had more of a sear on it. Flavor wise, it was underwhelming and would’ve benefited more from more seasoning and a bit of spice.
Salmon Bowl: 5/10 My husband’s main course. Lacking flavor overall and not enough rice. Mostly salad, but the mango dressing on the salad was delicious and would benefit more if there was more of that on top. Some of the salmon bites were undercooked which we’re not sure if that’s how it was supposed to be so if you like your salmon like that then you might prefer this dish. Definitely a light weight dish. I personally liked the coconut jasmine rice that it came with though.
Chocolate Caramel Harmony Cake: 7/10 If you are a chocolate lover, this is definitely the cake for you. It’s a large slice of decadent cake on top of caramel. I personally really liked it even though I’m not a chocolate cake type of person. It’s overly sweet but if you have a sweet tooth, this is the dessert to get.
Crème Brûlée Cheesecake: 7.5/10 Decadent but in a different way! The creme brûlée had a nice crack and crunch. The cheesecake was a decent size. We wished the ratio was a bit different as it was a lot of cheesecake compared to the crème brûlée but if you really like cheesecake then I would say this is a great option. I don’t like cheesecake that much and I...
