I've been a customer for about 10 years. Yesterday, I ordered a pasta entree for dinner with some extra bread. I used the drive up window like I always do. I'd ordered and paid online.
I was served by a lady. She made a fuss over the bags, checking them, then gave them to me. I took them and left.
I drove to my friend's house as we had Friday night plans. Once arrived, I took the food inside and opened the bags. I had pasta entrees! I called them immediately to find out what was going on. The lady who served me answered the phone.
When I say she had an attitude, I'm not kidding. She and the manager wanted me to bring the extra food back! Seriously. They said they called me after I left, as I was DRIVING, to tell me to bring the extra food back, but it went to voicemail. Since I was driving, it would.
They acted like I robbed them! They kept trying to get me to drive all the way back. Ummm... no. When I got the food, I didn't speed away. I sat there putting the food on the front seat. I then sat in the parking lot waiting for San Mateo evening traffic to clear so I could pull out.
I did nothing wrong. I ordered my food. I drove up to the window and took what they gave me, like I always do. They made a mistake, but they acted like I did them wrong. Additionally, it's a health code violation for them to take food back once it's left the restaurant and give it to another customer. They would've had to throw it out! I'm not driving all the way back to give them food that would just be thrown away.
I asked if I would be charged for the 2 entrees I didn't order. They said I wouldn't, but asked for my phone number, so they could "make a note" on my information in their computer for future orders. Then they very rudely hung up while I was trying to ask what note they were making.
Ten years, I've been a customer. It was their employee's mistake, not something I did. I was under no obligation to try to fix their error. I'm insulted and furious. They're not the only pizza place in my area. It will be a long time before I order...
Read moreIf you want to go to a place with over worked and under paid kids trying to run this place come and enjoy. I worked here for months and I know from first hand unless Renato is there it is not Gino’s pizza. Renato is a prideful man who is to stubborn to listen to his employees so you’ll see different crew probably ever so often when you come in. All his old crew quit because of this. Coming in is like Russian roulette you’ll ether get the best or worst pizza. He uses fresh and quality ingredients but unless he has trained this new batch of employees better….. the cleaning could be better and was better while I was there. At one point in time I worked 40 hours in 3 days because he lost so many employees. I was barley trained and had to figure most of it out by myself. It’s not Renato’s fault he’s just a man trying to run a business . But Over working us and under paying is what made us all quit. Loved the job at first but things slowly went down hill. This business has a lot of potential if only Renato would listen. His food is amazing and his recipes like no other but he’s not keeping the employees that prioritized that. I have nothing bad to say about Renato he was a good boss he’s just stubborn and hard headed and I wish his business the best. It could be the best. His dough alone is phenomenal. I wish he would of taken any of my advice because I would of stayed working there … we all...
Read moreI've been going to Gino's (and Venezia's, way back) for years, and it's always been, thankfully, consistently top notch. Not only is it the best NY style pizza in NNM, it's better than most you'll find in NYC and is at least as good as the best there. (Yes, I know the territory.) Sauce and crust are phenomenal and unmatched. Service has always been very courteous. On those notes I feel compelled to mention, at the risk of possibly cheapening my praise, that I simply do not understand why anyone would give this place anything less than the highest praise; as some have done. Ironically one of the reasons I've waited so long to write a review is, so many user reviews are... just so damn ill-informed. I simply do not understand why the whole city isn't rushing to buy this pizza all the time to the exclusion of all others. It has no competition.
My only complaint about Gino's is a minor one; that the dining area is a little dreary. That's why I gave only four stars for "atmosphere." If "atmosphere" includes staff courtesy, Gino's gets five every time for atmosphere, too. For what it's worth, since I usually get things to go (I live two hours away), the dining area is mostly unimportant to me.
Last thing: The cold Italian Sub (I think that's what you called it?) was great and I wish you'd bring it back! It's been off the menu, as far as I know, for...
