Jason's Deli — Restaurant in Albuquerque

UPDATE AS OF 8/29/24 After today's visit, will not be back to this location which is unfortunate because it is the closest one to home but nothing has changed in 9 months. Ladies at register were friendly and the young lady who gave us plates, took the time to put gloves on and went through several "clean" plates before she gave us one that was clean as opposed to just handing us the first one on top. Salad bar had many options and fairly clean but when it was time to find a table, they were dirty with dishes and trash. I again had to ask a passing employee for a rag to clean one off. She disappeared and several minutes later, a gentleman appeared. He did a squirt of cleaner and barely wiped table. I had to ask him to wipe down seats as all the stuff he wiped from table landed on them. And the floors were extremely dirty with food, napkins, etc. While the food tasted fresh and service was friendly, I have to question the condition of the kitchen if the front of house is lacking in cleanliness.

UPDATE: 11/6/23 Decided to give this location another go and again was very disappointed. The resturant is filthy. We went around 4pm and it was not busy at all (maybe 4 other families seated). The floors were covered in food and trash and most of the tables were dirty with dishes. I again had to clean my own table and seats as they were covered in crumbs, stuck on food, greasy fingers and hair. I should have taken pictures for show but believe me when I say my rag was black after wiping our table and booth down. It had been almost an hour after we sat down before we saw the busser making his rounds. I watched as he quickly sprayed the table and did one swipe and never touched the chairs. There were plenty staff seen and very few customers so the condition of this restaurant is unexcusable. A call to the health department may be in order since there clearly has not been any improvement since July!

Visited NM528 location on 7/30/23 and was quite disappointed in the cleanliness of this location. It wasn't very busy but there were several tables that had not been bussed and the tables that had been, were still very dirty with crumbs, garbage under table, sticky/goo on benches, the buffet lacked attention, ice cream machine was partial out and dripping. I asked for a dish rag to clean table and attendant acted as if I was a bother (even though I specifically noted I didn't mind cleaning it). When she did come to clean, she barely wiped the benches which resulted smeared goo and didn't bother wiping table. Cleanliness in a resturant is critical not to mention having employees who take pride in their work and environment. If the front of the house is dirty, it's almost safe to assume the kitchen is the same which for me is concerning. Hoping management takes note of this and ensures this improves as I have visited other locations and it was clear staff had pride in their work and environment. Second time visiting but different location and impressed. Exceptional clean, staff was friendly and professional and the salad bar was amazing!! If you need a salad fix, this is the best place. To start out, the cashier was really great and friendly. I want that to be fully visible, we never had a issue with the cashier, or the other woman in the peach shirt and black apron. They were both pleasant to us the entire time. At the register, my sister ordered for her group first and said that all the sides should be fruit, the cashier repeated it as a question, and my sister confirmed verbally again that all the sides would be fruit for their order. Mine was the only one with something different, as I got chips. The food was brought out and one plate had steamed vegetables, a honest mistake, the whole table sans the kids has worked in food service before, we know it happens. We advised them that the steam vegetables were incorrect and asked for the fruit side to be brought out, and everything seemed fine still. The runner who brought the correction for the messed up side gave us attitude. She said "We all heard you say steamed vegetables! !" in a very nasty tone to us, and refused to provide her first name, nor get the manager, nor provide the managers first name. After her interaction, she disappeared to the back and did not come out for the remainder of our time there. Next the manager also gave attitude when approached about the issue with the runner. There were definitely tempers on both sides of this incident, but the runner and manager did not at all provide appropriate customer service. Remember, this all started out because there was a simple issue with a wrong side being brought out to us.

The peak of this whole interaction was the manager stepping right up into my brother in laws face, and attempting to yank the receipt directly from my Sister's hand. At this point 2 off duty police officers kindly stepped in, the one speaking with us advised that he agreed that the manager should not have been getting aggressive with us, and offered to file a report. We chose to just leave, because the whole situation had spiraled ridiculously out of proportion for a simple sides mix up. Bottom line; the only customer service oriented employees in there, was the wonderful cashier, and the other woman in a peach shirt and a black apron, she also did not exhibit poor behavior at all. Stopped going to this location several months ago due to cleanliness issues. Thought we would give it another try since they recently remodeled, but sadly it was a mistake. I wish I could show the pictures taken. They were having a celebration, three managers were in the corner in front of a table with cake on plates. They were recording some type of video then walked away from the area. When I went to get an ice cream come, I looked over at the table with cake and it was a filthy mess, floor and table food all over. The ice cream station was even worse. No cones, ice cream and syrup everywhere. Salad bar was messy, with food all over the counters and floor. I noticed the busboy's elbows, arms and hands looked as if they hadn't been washed in several days. Glad he wasn't making the sandwiches.

When I asked one of the managers for more cones, she said she would be right there. This is when I noticed the trash behind her overflowing with wrappers and food. They were throwing trash on top of trash. The manager continued what she was doing and instead of asking one of the three other team members standing around doing nothing, she waited until she was done then went and retrieved the cones. By then we were on our way out the door. I did notice a woman who I believed was the General Manager, walk by the overflowing trash, filthy salad bar and cake table as she was leaving for her shift. Sad and unfortunate, I will continue to drive to the Paseo and I-40 location instead which is 10 miles further, but know it is always clean and employees are helpful...
