Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram at SNDTRAVELS and Eat Well Travel Often. Looking for a new restaurant this weekend in Albuquerque, we came across a place close to our hotel that is touted as one of the best in town, so we were excited. The server was nice, friendly and helpful with the menu. She asked if we wanted chips and salsa and we said sure. The chips were thick and tasteless and the salsa was thin and just hot, no taste. Not a good start. Diane got the appetizer combo of nachos, flautas, chimichanga, cheese quesadillas and fried shrimp. You can see that the nacho chips were burnt. The flauta was crispy and stuffed with dry shredded chicken, the chimichanga was not fully cooked and stuffed with a couple of bites of beef and then the same shredded chicken. The shrimp were the black items on top (check the pic). The shrimp was tender but the texture seemed as if it was run through a tenderizer. Once again, lacking a real taste. The cheese quesadillas were very good. Now for my plate. A pick three of which I chose a cheese enchilada, beef taco and fish soft taco. The beef taco was loaded with shredded beef (they don't have ground beef) so full there was no room for the lettuce, cheese and tomato. The shredded beef was neither tender nor tough. The cheese enchilada was almost completely absent of flavor. The fish taco was loaded with fish that tasted like it was cooked in ocean water it was so fishy. Overall, they were very liberal with the portions but way overpriced even if it had been good. The bottom line was it was so bad we just stopped eating. We told the server about some of the issues and she said she was sorry and handed me the bill. The last bad news was that we were charged $2 for the chips and salsa. We almost never do bad reviews because we check out our restaurants by using reviews and don't have too many bad experiences. This one we just couldn't understand. No way we could recommend this place. We found no saving graces. Two...

Read moreI have been to more then a few Hispanic places, across the country, and none of them have the Michelada that this place does. Very unique. The corn in my dish, was like freshly shucked from the cob, straight from the field, so fresh. And sweet. The SALSA! Madre de Dios, it had some HEAT, that took a little time to soak into the palette, without being overpowering. WONDERFUL (and I've had some HEAT, let me tell you. Eating fresh habaneros, seeds and all, is a feat for most, and the salsa here is lovely for a heat seeker, or non heat seeker. Pretty sure my waiter could easily tell I'm a heat seeker.) The presentation, the time between drinks and food courses was very 🙂. Nobody was iny face from start to finish. And that wasn't JUST my waiter, that was the other 5 I watched on this night. They were timely, not pressuring, and energetic. The atmosphere, let me start. My table top artwork really touched my history knowledge of South America, and added a nostalgia that coupled with Kang the Conqueror, and Talokan from Wakanda Forever, as well as more North American Flipperish seafood establishments like Flips around the eastern coasts Duck Island area. The chairs: nicely padded, well finished. Nothing shabby for cosmetic pleasance. The aesthetics and comfort are great. You can't choose wrong by eating here, as the menu isn't like most places, and has some very unique items.
Enjoy, if you stop by, and see...
