Lil’ Cakes & Creamery — Restaurant in Alexandria

If you’re an ice cream connoisseur, I highly advise you to skip. The daily rotating flavors concept is fun in theory but a fail in reality. Of the three flavors we tried, not one was good. The pineapple upside down cake was sickly sweet and lacking any real pineapple, or even pineapple flavor; the cherry pie was a basic vanilla with a few small pieces of pie crust and a bit of canned pie filling; and the glazed donut wasn’t much different from the vanilla, and you guessed it, sickly sweet.

Kids will probably enjoy the novelty of this place but I would personally rather have a handful of flavors done well than a limitless number of poorly executed ones. In truth, you can get better ice cream from the McDonald’s a few blocks away for a fraction of the price.

When the previous store went out of business, I was really hoping a coffee shop would move into the building, but alas. Maybe the next owner will grant that wish, as this place is unlikely to survive to next summer when there are so many better alternatives...

The negatives: the single is truly just 1 scoop (like, only what fits within the round ice cream scoop and not a drop more) and you cannot get 2 flavors with a single, despite the $4.50 price; the store was very hot inside (88+ degrees) with very loud music blaring outside — the ice cream was melting before we could even pay and I felt bad for the workers; worse, the ice cream was inconsistent among the 3 flavors we tried, both in terms of consistency (one had ice chunks in it, one was creamy/not fully frozen) and volume of ingredients (tons of chocolate chips in one, barely any cookie pieces in another). The positive: the flavors were tasty The conclusion: with so many other options in the Old Town Alexandria area, this one is over-priced for what you get, inconsistent in quality, and I don’t expect the place will last very long, since we were the only ones in the store at 8:30pm on a Saturday (a peak time when every other ice cream place typically has a line...

I didn’t know what this place was because I was going to my nail appointment at 21 nail lounge and the balloons outside and the music maybe want to stop by after my appointment so I did And I’m glad I did because it is a cute little ice cream shop, this shop actually have a variety of flavors that they change weekly, which is a amazing because you get to try their new flavors that they create every week. I had the blueberry cheesecake, milkshake with chocolate, drizzle, whip, cream, and rainbow, sprinkles, and boy. Let me tell you this was a party in my mouth. I definitely will be coming back on the weekends to get my cravings of ice cream, cheesecake slice, and they’re delicious.
