Buttered Toast — Restaurant in Algonquin

HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT. VERY RUDE SERVER. GO TO SYRUP!!!! I’ve been coming here for over a decade. There has been a lot of competition lately, but my family and I have remained loyal and continued to come here and we even recommended our friends to come here too. The employees there all know me & my family & they always greet us & there’s never been any issues. It’s always been pleasant EXCEPT for today. We had the rudest server. I come every weekend and I’ve never seen this server before. Her name is Nicole. She was giving us attitude the entire time. She was ignoring us when we asked questions. She NEVER asked us if we wanted a coffee refill. She never came by with any coffee, didn’t ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. We had to keep asking other servers that were passing by for a coffee refill, napkins, hot sauce, etc. My sister asked for more creamer and the server points and says “The creamer is right there.” So my sister says, “Yes, and I’m asking for more.” Then the server rolls her eyes like it was going to be a huge hassle for her to grab more creamer. She charged us $2 for splitting our meal in half. We’ve never been charged a fee for just splitting a meal. I could do it myself if that’s the case. We brought it up to the manager & of course, she was useless, she took the server’s side. I don’t know what happened to this place. It used to be so much more friendlier. We let the manager know we are NEVER coming back here, she didn’t seem like she cared. We’ve already told our family & friends NOT to come back here. We’re going to take our business elsewhere. BRING BACK OLD...

Food is good, not great but also not bad. I'm also aware it may depend on what you order since pancakes, waffles, skillets can be really good; my review is an overall since I've tried a lot of menu options over the past few years. While the food is ok now this used to be one of my favorite places for breakfast not just for the taste but for the service too. It has been more than a few times we're barely acknowledged by our servers; today I observed her be extremely friendly to the booth in front of us and then slides over rushing us to take our order before even receiving our drinks. Luckily we knew what to order within 4 min and by the time she brought our drinks she said she didn't know who ordered what & just named the drinks she was holding. Food was fine but did not once check on us (but did on the booth in front). One of the kids had to use the washroom & I didn't want our server to think we were leaving but she did not stop by and on my way to back she was walking back to our booth and upon seeing I was gone had a "yikes" facial expression. She did not notice me right behind her as I had walked back upon seeing her and just asked if she could get us a box and the check; this she did pretty quickly and never saw her again. I was in & out in about 25 min and while I don't expect to be there an hour...it felt very rushed & poor experience. Not at all enjoyable in the least. If service was everything, then this place would rate 10 stars based on today's service received by Jenna. Jenna is an amazing server with phenomenal customer service. She had a warm, welcoming greeting. When asked for her recommendations, Jenna was quick to not only provide recommendations but options with details. Jenna was courteous with her coworkers as well, thanking them when they helped serve. Jenna checked in with us frequently, but not to the point of being overbearing or annoying. This place should really recognize Jenna's service before some other company snags her; she is amazing! Now as for the meal...My daughter and I ordered mocha cappuccinos which were delicious, followed by the coffee which is definitely bold and flavorful. I ordered the chicken fajita omelette which came with hashbrowns and a side of pancakes. Just like the other reviewers stated, the omelette looked more like a 2 egg omelette than the 4 stated. The omelette was decent tasting; the hashbrowns were a bit bland but I was grateful they were not covered in salt like they are at most places. I took the pancakes home for later so can't comment on those. My daughter ordered the stuffed french toast. The french toast itself was not good but that sauce was absolutely delicious! Will we come back? Yes indeed if just for the coffee alone...though I do want to try those...
