I don't write reviews often, but I feel like this warrants one. We picked this place since I love poke, and we noticed this place had 5 star reviews. Needless to say, my entire family was extremely disappointed with our food.
First off, the order was not ready when it was scheduled to be ready for take out. My brother had to wait 10+ minutes for the order to come out.
My mom and I ordered poke bowls. These bowls were mostly sushi rice with very little toppings. We paid extra for avocado, and we each had about 2-3 small slices each. We had 2-3 pieces of salmon. The spicy tuna was a pile of unflavored mush. It was AWFUL. I've never had spicy tuna like that before, and I feel like that requires an explanation. At all of the poke places I've been to before, the pieces of fish are chunks not pureed baby food. The pineapple also tasted very strange. There were only a few pieces of cucumber and carrots, which is insane considering we paid over $16 for each poke bowl.
My brother had the chicken pineapple fried rice, which he did not like either. It was incredibly greasy and had zero flavor whatsoever. We all ended up throwing our food away.
I am honestly shocked at the amount of good reviews that Poke Bowl has. We will honestly not be back. Poke brothers down the street doesn't skimp on the toppings/protein, is the same price, and actually tastes...
Read moreThis place has easily earned a slot in my list of favorite restaurants. I've been a frequent customer of Poke Bros, both in McHenry and Algonquin under the assumption they were the only poke bowl place around. After seeing a review on the Facebook group "McHenry County Food Critic", I instantly knew I wanted to give Poke Bowl a try! I have some coworkers who also love poke bowls and when I told them about the discovery, everyone was in to try it. I ordered the Rainbow Sushi Burrito (honestly, I'd been searching for a place that sells sushi burritos!) and coworkers got a make-your-own poke bowl and a Cali Sushi Burrito. The reviews were unanimous - the food is excellent!
Not only that, upon walking in to pick up our take-out order, the employees greeted me and asked if it was my first time in. Since it was, they made me an order of spring rolls on the house! (Those were also delicious!). The 2 women working behind the counter were extremely friendly and welcoming. In the many times I've been to both Poke Bros locations - I can't list a single time any of their associates struck up a conversation with me. I enjoy Poke Bros and don't dislike their poke bowls - but I now like the food at Poke Bowl better. This will definitely be my go-to for poke bowls and...
Read moreOne of my really good friends from college who is from Hawaii has always wanted me to try Poke Bowls, I'm glad I found one close to home and I gotta say it was very very good! The cashier Irene did a fantastic job explaining to me the concept over Poke Bowls. I got interested in the Chicken and Shrimp Hawaiian Bowl but I was worried it was going to be too spicy, but Irene gave me the option to have the sauces on the side and what can I say the sauces were not spicy at all for me! The green sauce and the orange sauce along with some type of oil sauce worked fantasticly well together! What can I say they got me hooked on that bowl and I cannot wait to try another dish from here! 10/10 would definitely recommend the staff if so friendly and make you feel welcomed to their Hawaiian...
