Update: I got invited here by friends. The service was great and the chips and salsa are still to die for. Had a good time.
(Update: 2 years ago: 3 Stars) Food is still good but we don't eat here anymore because they got rid of all of our favorite servers. Now everytime you go there it's someone new or a server that acts like they hate their job. Not sure if they need paid more or just need a moral boost but if you can't keep your happy staff, or your staff happy, you are obviously doing something wrong.
(Original Review. 3 years ago: 5 Stars) Don Ponchos is everything you could want from a restaurant. Great food, excellent service, and good prices.
Big thank you to the server Rick. He always greets you like he's happy to see you. Great attitude and great service. Every time we eat here we hope he's our server because he's never let us leave disappointed.
My family eats here often. Almost everything I've tried tastes great. My old standby was the chicken or beef fajita jr. I've recently been hooked on their chicken quesadilla but their Mexican chili burger is also a favorite. They also offer a buffet and rooms for large groups as well as the banquet side of the building for special events.
If you like tea, the unsweet is refreshing like cold water and not bland like other places. The sweet tea however is nothing like you'll get at other places either. We still like it but its definitely not what we had first expected. They also offer pop and alcohol as well.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are always beyond friendly. The service is always good even when they're busy. And to top it all of, 2 people can get full for under $20. They also offer military discounts if you ask even though they don't advertise it. I usually just give it to the servers though because after the low price of the meal and the high value of the service, I really think...
Read moreThis used to be a favorite place to go, but sadly I doubt that we will be back. Prior to covid, we would come here weekly and have great conversations with the staff and good food. However, I think they have had a change in management and are in the process of updating the place. I was told that the bathrooms are now nice, that's good, they were previously dicey. However, all the colorful decorations that gave the vibe that this was a family owned restaurant are gone. I can see that they are in the process of replacing some of it to make it a more classy restaurant, but that vibe clashes with the Tshirts that the staff wears. Perhaps it's just part of the transition. As for the food and service...much to be desired. The chips were the best part of the entire meal. I love refried beans, but honestly Taco Bell's would have been better. My food wasn't horrible, just the flavors were not as expected. As for my husband's "chimichanga" was weird to be grilled vs fried, but okay. We knew that when it was ordered. But he couldn't take more than a few bites. I will eat just about anything, especially Mexican and I couldn't force myself to finish it. The waitress did not offer to get a box. She did not explain how to pay for our food, she gave us our bill on the plate where you can put the money or card and then didn't come back. After a bit, my husband went up front to pay like we used to do. We saw the owner greet other tables, but we were not greeted. It was not a very busy or packed place. Maybe we will try again in a few years or if we get invited by some friends, but it...
Read moreDO NOT EAT THE SALSA!!! I have gone to this establishment for over 2 decades. It has always been one of my favorites. When the new owners bought it and changed the chicken recipe I was sad, but still supported it. We have stopped in every week for many years to buy the salsa and bring home (15 min drive). The last 4 times I bought the salsa and got it home it was spoiled. The first time I let it go, thought sometimes it can happen. Second time I tried to call and no one answered so I messaged them on face book. They saw it never responded. So I sent an email to them. They never responded. The third time I called in on the phone, talked to a lady. She took my name, and phone number, No one called me at all. Just got the 4th one. Figured they know now that this is happening, so they can make changes accordingly. I was wrong. The 4th one is also spoiled. My husband mentioned it to the gentleman at the counter who said they are getting many complaints that the salsa is spoiled and they have all been relayed to the owners. So I guess the owners don't care if the food they sell is spoiled or not. Just be warned, and be ware. I think we have offered enough changes and enough grace and it is time to move on and start buying fresh salsa at another Mexican restaurant You can see in the photo the bubbles that formed from it spoiling. You can also see the condensation on it from being kept cold in the...
