Poké Bar at Avalon — Restaurant in Alpharetta

The second poke place I tried aside from The Poke Company, visited several times.

I walked in and was greeted by a fishy smell, almost walked out but noticed they have a bigger selection of seafood so attributed the smell to that. I ordered the same, two proteins including spicy tuna and regular. I ordered the same mix and toppings as well.

When I got home I noticed how skimpy the ingredients were, there was a ton one of the proteins but not that much of the other, I could count the edamame seeds there were so few, there was barely a rice base, and the sauce only coated half of the skimpy ingredients. The to go box was half full, unlike The Poke Company which packs a recyclable to go bowl vs a ‘Panda Express’ box, I wondered if that effects the quality.

Last night I went to eat leftovers and was greeted with the same fishy smell. This morning I awoke and felt nauseous which prompted the review, I do not believe they use fresh fish or think they extend the guided times fish should be served. Fresh fish should never have an odor.

I ordered this poke bowl through Uber eats. I had never had poke bowl before and I was VERY nervous. I love sushi, but this felt different.

I am so happy I ordered from there. It was delicious. (Obviously it will depend on what you order to determine if you like it) but the combination I had of Ahi Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp, seaweed salad, cucumber salad, white rice, greens, sesame seed oil, sesame seeds, edamame, sweet onions, pineapples, sweet corn, and the sweet chili sauce… oh my gosh. And the ingredients taste and feel very fresh. I can’t wait for my dinner tomorrow (I ordered two) and can’t wait to eat here more.

I highly recommend it. Just make sure you know WHAT you are ordering and you like what you are ordering. :) 12/10 will eat again.

Rude... my service experience today in one word. Don’t expect to feel as if your business matters. No warm greeting. The lady that took my order today tried to cheat me by giving me 2 scoops of meat on a large order (had to remind her it’s 4 - she reluctantly added 2 more scoops). My wife’s ordered a small - it was maybe half full after adding all the Items. At the end - she stopped me from choosing the toppings so she could measure a teaspoon for each topping - wow! After paying - she closed the lids and left my food on the counter - no bag. I had to request a to go bag and the gentleman who was working with her asked her to give me a bag (he usually takes care of me but I wasn’t lucky today and got the wrong person behind the counter). The food is awesome and if it were not for the horrible service I received today I would have given a 4.5...
