Rio Balsas Taqueria — Restaurant in Alpharetta

Called ahead for a party of 14. We were set outside (not under the patio) and ordered drinks. The wind started to pick up and blow trash off our tables. It also started thundering. Forecast was calling for rain. I went inside and politely asked if we could move indoors or even to the covered patio. One person said the large empty table inside was reserved. No one could ever give me an answer about the open patio tables. A female employee walked by and said rudely and loudly “what do you need?!?” I explained the situation and she said that they didn’t have anywhere to move us until another table got up. I said “ok” and went back and took my seat outside. Our server then came up (approximately 15 minutes after he took our drink order) and asked what we were doing. We asked if we could get our drinks…he then said that we could not until we made up our minds about what we were doing. We explained we weren't leaving and were just waiting until the other table opened up in the case of rain. He said that he would not bring our drinks outside to then just have to move things to a different table. I’m not sure what they expected us to do? I guess sit in a thunderstorm and eat our food. I really wanted to like this place. I visited for the first time with my boyfriend on Cinco de Mayo to enjoy dinner and drinks to celebrate. Bri was our server and it was the worst service I have ever received in my life. I am a huge foodie, and I spend a lot of time trying new places! there was a price discrepancy between the online menu and the menu in the restaurant, so my boyfriend asked Bri about it. She quickly gave the worst attitude ever and stated things like "you're in alpharetta, this is not expensive, i don't know what you're budget is but it's not bad." typically servers accommodate what you're hoping for and remain calm. She never really came to check on us when food came out and she never came to collect our tab. We ended up having to give the bill to another server. Bri returned our completed tab by aggressively throwing it on our table and saying have a good day as she walked away. She is the RUDEST, worst server I have ever experienced in all of my days and she is the reason we will never be returning to this establishment. If she is your server, i highly suggest asking for a new section in the restaurant. The chicken tacos I got were pretty good, and so was the queso! Overall, would not waste...

Don't let the small building fool you, the food inside is very big in flavor! The staff also, was helpful and food was served in a relatively short time frame.

We started with the guacamole appetizer, which wasn't made table side, but was fresh and had a little kick to it and was served with slightly thicker chips than what we got with the salsa.

Next came the rib eye special which was full of flavor with grilled/charred vegetables and mushrooms. They served a small cup of steak sauce which was like Heinz 57 meets the jalapeno, but I felt the dipping sauce complemented the steak, not just there to cover it up as the steak held up on it's own.

The fajita tacos were two good sized tacos as seen in the photo. If you like fajitas but want a slightly smaller portion, then this is a good choice. It is really flavorful and it goes well with the guacamole from the appetizer.

The fiesta shrimp tacos were a festive display with a mix of sweet and spicy with pineapples giving the sweetness. The shrimp was nice sized and very fresh, not soft and spongy as I've had elsewhere.
