Waitress was extremely nice and talkative, Atmosphere in restaurant is pleasant, I ordered a Maki Combo and got the Boston Roll, Philly Roll and the Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll, the Boston Roll was standard and wasn't anything special but was still good Philly Roll was delicious and the Spicy tuna Roll was amazing and just melted in my mouth I also got a Uni roll which overshadowed the entire experience I got it a long time ago and liked it but I guess my taste buds have changed, it melted in my mouth in the most unpleasant way and was hard to swallow, the aftertaste was gross as well. But minus my experience with the Uni the Sushi was amazing and I wouldn't put this to 4 Stars based on my own personal taste. At least the presentation of the Uni was pleasant. I also got Shrimp and Scallop hibachi with Brown fried rice which was simply amazing, scallops were big and perfectly cooked and the same can be said for the shrimp, rice was different, but in a good way, amazing variety of veggies as well, these came with miso and a salad. The Miso was excellent extremely flavorful, and the salad was good of course, the same type of good salad you'd expect at any similar restaurant. All in all everything was amazing except the Uni, loved it, I will be back one day.

He requested to eat eel on sushi on his birthday. The hibachi salmon was cooked to a perfect tenderness. The sliced their jumbo scallops into thin pieces so I am not sure I liked the texture of that. The hibachi sauce was well seasoned and flavorful, but it has a dominating flavor or fresh ginger juice and garlicky smell so my kids didn't like the hibachi sauce here. My kids prefer the Japanese udon noodles instead of the broken spaghetti noodles they used for the hibachi combo. Daughter enjoyed her sushi salmon on rice. Grilled squid was tender. That's my favorite of all that we ordered. I ordered Crazy Roll that is fried that was crunchy but not oily. Overall, my little man was very happy with his birthday dinner. Thank you Totoya Sushi for the complimentary birthday treat. You made my little man's day. I was supposed to go get a birthday cake after dinner but my little man perceived that fried tempura ice cream as his birthday cake. The staffs were all very friendly too.

Great spot for any occasion, whether for a birthday or any other celebration, for lunch or dinner. There isn't much seating so it gets busy, mostly toward the weekend. Sometimes having a reservation is better because there may be a wait time to be seated for 20-30 minutes. The atmosphere and music are always so pleasant and amazing. The tuna tartare is one of my favorite dishes there. I always go for the All Day 3 rolls special for about $18 (was recently increased from 15.95 to 17.95 i believe). The selections of sushi is great. Top quality sushi, you can tell the difference from other places. Kids menu is very appreciated by my 7yo -- if choosing the salmon, expect a big portion! The servers are friendly and attentive. Would suggest to seat at the bar if possible. Heads up: I was told they don't take reservations for party of 8+ on weekends, thought it would be helpful. Bottom line: You won't go wrong with Ootoya. My partner and I always look forward to come back.

If you avoid a couple things this restaurant is a five star venue: stunning lake view and generous portions of tempura were above and beyond your standard Japanese restaurant. The servers were also great. With the music (reminded me of the electronic music in a Korean night club) this is an excellent date destination for the college crowd. Just avoid the booth nearest the door, as you won’t see the view lol. Also, don’t order the udon soup because someone added sesame oil to it. I’m Japanese and I think the unique, complex flavor of the udon dashi is overpowered by a drop of sesame oil. Everything else we ate was superlative. The fresh shrimp and vegetable tempura had the most plenteous portions we’ve ever seen. Alongside the pan fried gyoza was a delectable sauce (here the light touch of sesame oil worked perfectly with the delicately sweet rice vinegar). We so enjoyed our lunch there.

The dine-in seating fills up fast on weekends, call ahead for reservations to avoid a wait at the door. The nigiri and sashimi are always incredibly flavourful, the maki rolls are expertly made and are offered with a variety of ingredients/fillings. My personal favourite is the Uni Nigiri, it is an absolute must to order here if they have it available, it does sell out fast so be sure to ask for it as soon as you get seated! The Sushi in the photos were ordered a la' carte, from bottom left counter clockwise are the BBQ Eel Nigiri, Scallop Nigiri, Flying Fish Roe Nigiri, Quail Egg Nigiri, Surf Clam Nigiri, White Tuna(Escolar) Sashimi and Yellowtail Sashimi.

I came here last night to meet up with a friend for dinner and had a lovely experience. We got there around 5:50/6, so we seemed to beat the dinner rush and were seated right away. Otherwise there is a QR code to scan when you walk in to add yourself to the waitlist. I ordered a miso soup, the Sea World roll, and the Crazy Roll (no spicy mayo). I enjoyed everything! The Crazy roll was a little big so there were a few bites I had to cut in half, but still enjoyable. Our server was very friendly, and everything was out quickly! I love the atmosphere inside as well. Windows overlooking the lake behind the building, a Japanese cherry blossom tree in the center, and oil-paper umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. Very well done! If in the area, will definitely be back!
