My family had been going to Belmar Bakery for 30+ years. We used to recommend the bakery to everyone we know, because we never had a single problem... until about a year ago, last October, and again just today. "Three strikes and you're out" would be the appropriate phrase. Last year, I ordered a coconut cake for my sister's birthday because that's what she wanted and always got, for many years. For some reason, they changed the recipe and added a lemon filling. I had not been told about this, so when I took it home, we cut into it and my sister was very upset. She threw it out... $40 wasted. I called and the lady on the phone told me that's how they've always made the coconut cake. I said I knew very well that it hadn't been made with lemon filling the previous 12 years we got it before. I asked for my money back and was hung up on. I called back and they said we must have gotten disconnected (sure). We got a new cake that was made how we always had gotten it, and we let it go. Last October, my mother ordered non-decorated sugar cookies for Halloween. She was going to decorate them with her grandchildren and didn't mind having to pay $40 for them. She was very specific about what she wanted and the order was taken. When I picked them up for her, I opened the box and alas... freakin' decorated. I told the cashier that that wasn't what we ordered, and she got snippy with me. Good lord, whatever happened to customer service?! I was forced to take them, and my mother called and talked to the manager for nearly an hour. End result? We had to scrape them off ourselves because they couldn't make new cookies by the party the following day. Finally... today. My mother ordered another coconut cake. Asked for no lemon filling. Was denied. Asked to have Happy Birthday written on it (like we have every year). Was told it couldn't be done with coconut on top. Asked if she could pay for it when she picks it up since she didn't have money deposited until the day of. Was given an attitude about that. Talked to a manager and was told that they couldn't make her happy and wouldn't take the order. So, Belmar Bakery, my family will no longer be coming in. And I will be letting everyone we know to not go there. We will be going elsewhere and recommending our friends and family to the better...
Read moreI had a decent experience with their service. Scenario: I am currently in Ohio while my guy friend just recently relocated to Amarillo. Neither of us know much of anything of the area. Today happens to be his 30th birthday! I googled nearby bakeries that delivered near his job. Found this place decent reviews. So I trusted the reviews and that the website would do them justice. I had an ideal to have a small portion of lasagna (which was on the menu on the website) and cupcakes delivered to my friend since I am not in town to do this. Come to find out, lasagna is no longer served and the small portion is not an option either. I settled for just cupcakes and $10 delivery to go 10 minutes down the road. Not extremely reasonable for distance, but I understand paying for convenience. So after about 3 calls of my own indecisiveness I was able to settle my order only to find out my total including shipping had to be at least $25 to be delivered. The PROS TO THIS ALL, I talked to Mary. She seemed to play it by ear because every question I asked I was put on hold to have verified. She was a nice young lady. Not extremely personable as I was excited I was doing something special for my friend on 30th bday. She gave me what i asked for didnt offer many suggestions, since I'm unfamiliar with the company it self I wasn't sure what the best options were. She definitely lacked rapport but she was extremely pleasant. She didnt go the extra mile, but she did just enough. I am sure she will be more knowledgeable in time. My friend did receive his goodies at the appointed time I requested which was perfect. He enjoyed them all and he mentioned he would try you all again! Thank you for your services that were provided and making his day special although he wasn't able to try out...
Read moreBelmar, what has happened? I had been enjoying your baked goods since 1984. One of my absolute favorites was your cherry pies. They used to be chock full of cherries, top to bottom and side to side, with a thick, sweet filling that was not runny or gelatin like. My wife picked up a cherry pie, a scone and a date nut coffee cake. You did well on the scone and date nut coffee cake but your once impeccable cherry pie was a serious disappointment. Wow, look at my pictures and videos. I have endured two pieces of the cherry pie. It was a treasure hunt trying to find any cherries. One piece that I had yesterday I found only two (2) cherries. Today I tried again and managed to find five (cherries) in the gelatinous glob of pie filling. Even at room temperature the filling jiggled like cheap gelatin and had a dull red-pink color, (see video), not a deep red of a pie full of cherries. The pie crust was excellent but the filling was awful. Please abandon your current cherry pie filling recipe and go back to your original recipe. The ingredients in order as listed on the box (see photo) were: Filling- cherry, water sugar, corn starch. The ingredients in order of actual content based on my visual and palatal inspection were in order of content of the filling: water, sugar, corn starch, gelatin, just a few cherries and artificial food coloring.
Belmar Bakery please rise to your prior greatness, do not cut corners to save on costs. I will gladly pay a quality price for a quality product. I will return and check out your once famous cherry pie. If you return to your greatness I will change my review to reflect your restoration of...
