I had to try out the new Chuy's. It opened up 2 days ago in Amarillo. I guess everybody else in town decided to try it out also, LOL. There was a 35 to 45 minute wait and for me it took a little over 45 minutes to finally get in. I don't totally understand that because as I looked around there were two or three tables empty most of the time that I was eating so I don't know if it was due to social distancing or what but even when I was standing inside the last 5 or 10 minutes waiting I could see empty table or two off to my left.
I had the nicest waitress you could hope for. I was going to get a margarita until I found out they were over $10. I'm used to paying $3 to $4 at the Mexican places I go to in town. But I decided to get a mojito which was very good. It was $8.75. My daughter had given me two or three suggestions of what she like to order at the Austin location. I ended up ordering the chimichanga for $11.99. It came with beans and rice. Everything tasted good. The chicken inside the chimichanga with especially good. It was like rotisserie chicken, very moist and tender. The only problem I had was at one point when I took a bite that included some chimichanga and beans on the same forkfull I chomped down on something hard with no give to it. Then I realized there was a second piece of something. I removed it from my mouth and saw that it was something black that look like little rocks. Allowing for the possibility it might have been a filling that came out I felt all around the inside of my mouth but could find no sign of a broken tooth or missing fillings so it must have been a couple of stones that somehow ended up in the food. I did mention it to the manager, after I paid. I didn't want her to think I was trying to get comped something because that's not how I am. I told her I was just informing her so she would know, not to complain because I had had a very nice meal. She was super nice about it also and ended up giving me a coupon for a free queso the next time I come in. That will give me an excuse to come back to try something else next time. All in all I would recommend this place. I had a very good...
Read moreI can say that I was skeptical at first because it's another Tex-Mex restaurant, and don't it wrong you pretty much get the same everywhere BUT not at Chuys, I'll tell you why. My husband, sister and I went yesterday night, the menu is quite simple and we order chicken flautas, chuychanga and tacos al carbon or fajitas something like that with chicken. Well when we got the chips and salsa, that was the first, in your face moment for me because I wasn't really thrill about eating here. OMG! That salsa is delicious, has a special flavor you won't get at any Mexican restaurant, it even sent me to a resort in Cancun where I tasted something similar, they chips could me less greasy but mmmm we went to town with them. Oh, I forgot we order guacamole as an appetizer, mmmm another delicious slap in my face, very simple and absolutely the best with a bed of lettuce at the bottom. When our food arrived we were extremely excited, the flautas were perfect, the chuychanga was fenomenal and best of all it wasn't bathed in the salsa that other restaurants usually pit on top of them. I got my tacos and mmm just perfect. Those plates are HUGE, so my husband was happy and full, my sister was happy as well and somehow finished her meal, me I'm pregnant so already full had to take some of mine to go. Since we were pigging out anyway we order 3 leches, holy guacamole THE BEST we've eaten so far and the "piece: of cake was like half a pound of cake or something of amazing 3 leches . So after all this rant obviously I highly recommend, it's not expensive and they serve a lot, which in my husband's case was the perfect amount to say "I'm full". It's worth every penny and pound that you'll get lol. Oh, their staff were too courteous, friendly and knowledgeable on what they serve and offered great recommendations like the strawberry mojito my sister ordered. So, do not hesitate and enjoy yourself...
Read moreAte dinner there on 1/2/25 and initially our experience was going great. The restaurant wasnât super busy and we got our drinks and queso super fast! We placed our order and waited a long, long time for our food. Server was topping off our water and tea, etc., but clearly the kitchen was having issues. He never mentioned anything to us about the wait for food or status. We finally get three of our 6 plates delivered as well as two skillets with fajitas that were not sizzling like the others that came out. Server says he will go get the rest of the order, including the plate for our hungry toddler. He stops and takes an order at a nearby table. The three of us who got our food decided to eat while it was hot. We ate 90% of our meal before the server came back with one set of veggies/cheese etc for the first fajita plate. Goes to another table. As he comes past we ask if there is another fajita setup and where is the toddler meal? He said heâs getting it and âI only have two armsâ. At this point we ask for the manager who comes out with the toddlerâs meal and other setup. We told him we donât want anything comped (he didnât offer) but wanted to voice our shock at what the server said to us. He said âWe are short staffed and I am in from Dallas to help outâ. No apology. Nothing. I think the server was feeling burned out since he had no help running his food out with 6 orders and had to do it himself. It wasnât super busy, but he definitely shouldnât have snapped at us about it! Just know there are definitely major issues at this restaurant and we wonât be going to another Chuyâs...
