We are frequent diners/reviewers of this dining institution. We have had amazing experiences here over the years, including our kiddos being able to experience an amazing birthday dinner each year. However, this year was different. We called the day before to make sure we could have our son's favorite chef handle our table, like we do every year. We were ensured that he would be available. This particular chef was the deciding factor on whether or not my son chose Kabuki or Volcano Korean BBQ for his birthday dinner. This and the fact the Kabuki has awesome sushi. When we arrive (for early lunch) we were told by the front hostess that we may or may not be able to have my son's favorite chef host our table. "OK, I thought, maybe we will get him anyway". We proceed to order our son some sushi, (which was forgotten and never delivered.) Our son's requested chef was not our chef that day. (Even though I called the day day before and was reassured) I figured it was due to the fact that our chef knew the other 2 people who dined at our table and completely ignored our order and the fact that it was our son's birthday. I had to track down our waiter, who was talking to the waitress at the bar for probably a good 10 mins in order to cancel our sushi order. We then had a measly celebration for our son when I had to remind the waiter that it was ours son's birthday. This was so disappointing. I cried. As much as we pay to eat as this establishment I would think that there would be a different level of customer service. We eat here frequently. Definitely going to consider a new birthday tradition. If chefs are not available for dine by request, tell me when I call the day before!!!! This entire establishment let me down!
**trial run # 2 on 4/12/2025 (10 months after my previous review) so my husband, daughter and I dined here to try again. No birthdays have been had here since my last review due to poor service. We arrived and were told there was a 20-30 min wait (normal) We had some drinks from the bar while waiting. We were seated and a woman came to our table to take drink and sushi requests. We ordered. She came back shortly to ask about soup and salad. We told her that our We would like both soup and salad and that our daughter would prefer 2 soups instead. She brought our soup first (1 soup per person, no salad) She brought our sushi next. We had no sauce, no napkins, nothing to eat our sushi with, no salt or pepper or anything on our table and she disappeared. Our chef came out to start cooking. He noticed we had no chopsticks and that my daughter was eating sushi with her hands so he found her some chopsticks. After he started cooking and realized he needed soy sauce, he found our waitress and confronted her. After he spoke with her, I spoke with her and quickly asked about our salads again and my daughters 2nd soup. She assured me she would bring them along with our drinks. (It literally states on the menu that soup and salad are included!) Our chef continued cooking and was amazing. He was personable and great with our daughter. When our waitress finally returned, she brought our drinks but no salad or soup was in sight. However the table next to us was being fully served with soup, salad, the works, etc. When our meal was almost complete, she finally came back and asked if we still wanted our salad. I declined and was amazed she had the audacity to ask after such a long time. I am honestly over this place. We spend good money (not to mention this was my redemption chance for this restaurant) and we seem to strike out with service each time. The food is decent but not enough to save my review. Too bad Sakura closed. At least they could bring my food. The grill atmosphere is not enough to save my review for kabuki. I remember the good days when the restaurant was off of I -40 and western and it was consider one of the high class places to eat. Service was top notch. The owners need to take a step back at the money gouging and remember those times, and maybe then, they will be...
Read moreI have come to this place for years. It has been my favorite restaurant to eat in Amarillo since I was a small child. I used to go to the old location till it burned down. Absolutely loved kabuki. This experience has completely put me off of this place. I’m not sure I ever want to eat here again. My boyfriend called and ordered us food. He said not no veggies and mushroom. The person taking the order did not here him. So he didn’t put it down and they made it wrong. So I called and talked to a young man probably around my age. He was rude and proceeded to tell me it was my fault. I then got a little irritated and plainly said the order is wrong. I can not eat this and therefore have wasted money. So he said he could get his manager. I said alright that I would wait for his manager. The manager came on the phone and once again told me it my fault that the young man did not here the order correctly. Once again I told him what I told the young man. He said he would remake it the way I wanted it. I told him my order no veggies and with mushroom. Then I thanked him and went to go get it. When I got back to my job. I checked my food and once again the got it wrong. It had no mushroom and lots of veggies. Yet again I called talked to the manager now defeated because I’m really really hungry at this point and just want my food. He again proceeds to tell me it’s my fault he didn’t hear my order correctly. He reluctantly said he would remake it in 1hour and 30minutes. So I asked my boss if I could go get my food at that time because I would be working at this time. She said it was alright. I gave him the okay and ended the call. After about 15 minutes he calls back and leaves me a voicemail saying that his boss won’t let him. That he can give me extra mushrooms when they open back up. I don’t want extra mushroom. I want my food made right. After all of this absolutely unnecessary bull and wasting money on something I can’t eat. I do not want to go back to this place. Even though I grew up eating there and love this place. This was a very...
Read moreI'm not sure if someone purchased this restaurant or what but it is not as good as Kabuki used to be in Amarillo, and I've been going there every few months for two decades. We just finished a meal there and the eggs were burned black and our medium steak came out way past well done and tough as a boot, the rice that usually is distributed at the end to the different chairs was instead put in a bowl the chef said it was for his dinner. The chefs seem more interested in looking around and checking out people at other tables instead of focusing on what they are doing. I normally don't complain about anything but seeing that my bill was about $100 when the waitress asked if everything was good I told her it was the worst meal I've ever had there, but it wouldn't affect her tip. She went and got the manager who came by, so I told him that there was no seasoning at all put on any of the vegetables so they were Bland and overcooked the steak on our meals was cooked past well done, tough to eat, and was full of fat that the chef did not cut out at all, and the eggs were burned black. He said that he would take care of our bill but when the bill came out instead of$96 it was $88. He seriously comped less than my tip for a nasty meal. It wasn't worth the wait it took him to go comp it.
At one point you would just have had the shrug because they were the only game in town but there are now Japanese steakhouses in town where the chefs are very attentive and entertaining and the service is very good, and the prices are more reasonable. One of the big reasons people still went to Kabuki was because of the consistency of good food but if that's gone there really is absolutely no reason and it will just be another big building on I-40 that gets shut down, bulldozed, and turned into another chain...
