MaMa Wing — Restaurant in Anacortes

The Short Version: A great addition to Anacortes- deliciously cooked and fresh Chinese food with friendly service.

MaMa Wing is an excellent restaurant that I will happily return to again and again. A few days ago my fiancee tried it for lunch with a friend and insisted we order takeout for dinner that same day (a recommendation that is hard to ignore)!

A few days later we stopped in for dinner and I must say- this is an excellent restaurant and is a very welcome addition to Anacortes' eatery options. The food is excellent- it's very fresh and is clearly cooked with passion for Chinese cooking. The menu is on the smaller side but everything on it has been delicious and I believe the size of the menu makes ordering far less intimidating than ordering from an expansive oriental menu would be. We had the lemon chicken (beautifully cooked and the lemon sauce is excellent), the potstickers (who doesn't love gyoza?), and the house fried rice. Every item we tried was a winner. As we got the check we even got an opportunity to sample the creme brulee- something I would not have normally ordered at a Chinese restaurant. MaMa is clearly a talented cook because even the creme brulee was excellent- a wonderful sweet crust on top with a perfect custard to balance it out. I would order it again in a heartbeat!

I wanted to give MaMa Wing’s a try after they were recommended to me by someone who, like me, once lived and dined regularly in San Francisco’s Chinatown. I am 6th/7th generation Chinese American, so although I might screw up the language a bit, I do know and appreciate the food. The first thing that caught me was when I asked for something not on the menu, a “dim sum” item called a “don tot”, which is an egg custard mini pastry that I craved and hadn’t had in months. The wonderful lady taking my order answered: “I can make some for you but it will take about 20 minutes.” Bazingo! Sold me on the spot! She dashed off to make them while my girlfriend and I continued to look through the menu. We also ordered the Lollipop Chicken (their specialty item that did not disappoint!😉,) an order of Sesame Balls (jian dui,) and the baked BBQ Pork Buns (char siu bao.) Everything came out fresh and hot. All four dishes were truly amazing. I could have easily downed another order of Lollipop Chicken, which was made to perfection… …crispy outside, juicy and tender inside. Even the tea was excellent, and when poured into the teacups you see tiny bits of tea leafs, which in Cantonese signifies having fullness in life.

Excellent food, friendly service, clean and comfortable, well lit and nicely decorated. Easy parking on the streets. Will definitely be back to try more items on the menu! Thankfully, I live on Whidbey Island so it’s not too...

My wife, child and I went to go have dinner here last night(7/26). Food was decent. The woman who seemed to be the owner was real nice. Unfortunately she employs a guy, and because of who she chooses to employ she will lose our business forever, or until he’s no longer there. His attitude and remarks were too level unreal and snooty. We should have canceled our order and walked out. After my wife ordered all the dim sum she wanted, he actually asked her “is that it?” Then turned to me, I put in my order of Kung pao chicken, and he continued to stare at me. I looked up at him, and he asked me “what, is that it?” What are people supposed to do, order half the menu? 2 adults and 1 child we ordered almost $75 worth of food. I’m not sure why, but upon leaving I actually left him what I’m going to consider a generous tip (at least 20%). When we got up to leave, he wouldn’t even look at us, and that’s not how he treated everyone else(I was watching all his actions and interactions after we put in our order). I guess he doesn’t want “our kind” in his bosses place of business? Whatever the reason is, I find it hilarious that some loser that probably needs to work 3 years to earn what I did in the first 2 fiscal quarters of 2025 is profiling me. Anyways, I will not step foot in that door with him still on the...
