I don't live in Anacortes, but had ordered some food over the phone to be delivered to someone else who does live there, for them to try. In that order was the Some Like It Hot sandwich (6 inch) + avocado (my addition) that sounded mouth-watering, among other items. Since the house is further out from the main part of town, I was charged a delivery fee. Given the ratings for this place, I thought it was a worthwhile price to pay.
The order arrived on time, per the time they'd indicated to me, however, I later found out that they'd missed the sandwich in the delivery. I called the next day to notify them and see if there was any way they could still deliver the sandwich. The service was pleasant and they apologized, but unfortunately, said they were short on staff that day, so I was promptly given a refund instead. While I was disappointed that the sandwich wasn't going to be tried, I was satisfied with the refund as mistakes will happen from time to time, and there had been no dispute about whether a sandwich had, in fact, been delivered or not. The process was cordial and easy.
Later that day, however, I was very pleased to receive word that a staff member named Abby had ended up delivering to the house not just a 6" Some Like It Hot sandwich, but a 12" one + avocado on the side! I have never written a review in my life but thought this merited one as Gere-a-Deli went above and beyond to ensure I ultimately got what I'd been hoping for---which was to have a someone I am separated from due to COVID-19, feel warm, special and loved through good quality local food. Many thanks to the staff at Gere-a-Deli for making...
Read moreI ordered a salad to go and was informed that they were busy and it would be 30 minutes - it was rude enough that I felt like they didn't really want me to place my order. I wouldn't have, but I had already spent too much time trying to find a good salad in a town full of restaurants that I have never tried. I got caught up at work so I was closer to 45 minutes getting there, but my salad still wasn't ready. I was hard pressed to find an employee that wasn't letting the lunch rush dictate the look on their faces (barely a smile in the joint). I ordered the turkey salad, with substituted cheese, and extra dressing ($0.40). The salad greens were plentiful and fresh. That's all the good I have for it. There was little turkey, the turkey was obviously packaged out of the cold cut section of the grocery store, and I kinda expected the turkey to be warm (it wasn't). On top of that I received the two ranch dressings (remember I paid extra for one) that were not even half full, so ultimately I feel like I got one dressing split into two cups and charged extra for it. I had gotten good reviews from friends, but the restaurant did not live up to the hype. It only got 2 stars because the...
Read moreI don't know what happened, but a place that has historically been pretty good has not been the last two times I've been here. I clearly was an awful customer, though I have no idea how, because the person that took my order was about as angry at me being there as was possible. Fine. What wasn't fine was the sandwich. There is a place I ate at in Montana once that claimed they had "sandwiches like you'd make at home," and we literally laughed out loud when we got them because they were just that - the ingredients you have in your fridge at home, and you even "get" to put them together. This reminded me a lot of that in that it was about the worst ingredients I could have found at home, served to me at what claims to be a deli. I got the Gobbler, and it tasted like the worst canned cranberry sauce with the most bland cream cheese and a tiny bit of turkey on bread that was too soft to hold up to any of it. Just really disappointing, and a clear frontrunner for worst...
