Wow!! A true Hidden Gem in Anaheim, Marri's has been in business 64 years and after tasting the food and experiencing the enjoyable atmosphere and above and beyond service (thanks again Randy and Mgr Alex) it is easy to see why they remain in business. We began dinner with a house Bruschetta, it was fresh and bright, full of flavor and not heavy. The main entrees this evening were the Fra Diavolo with sausages and my Daughter ordered the Calzone, a three cheese with sausage and mushrooms combination. Funny story when ordering we were unaware of Marri's portion sizes, and my Daughter ordered a large Calzone, our waiter looked at her and said are you sure you want a large???? He then proceeds to tell us a large would easily feed 4 adults! To say our jaws hit the floor would be an understatement and my daughter is only a 5'4" 17yr old...we all had a good laugh and changed her order to the small (which incidentally proved was still enough for 2 maybe 3 meals!! and no I'm not joking. Portion sizes are huge and family style, even my Fra Diavolo was enough for at least 2 people.
The food itself was exemplary, I personally haven't had such Incredible home style cooked Italian food since I was a child some 45 years ago at a special restaurant in Riverside called Las Palmas... The Fra Diavolo was WOW! Spicy, rich and decadent, the sausages melted in your mouth. The Calzone was Huge, packed with 3 cheeses and stuffed with sausage and mushrooms and a rich marinara sauce on the side. I had a glass of Merlot that was an excellent accompaniment to my Fra Diavolo pasta as recommended by Randy our waiter.
The Service as stated was Amazing in recommendations and attending to our needs and special food requests. The staff is very personable, Randy our waiter and the floor manager Alex went above and beyond to make out visit memorable.
I would definately recommend this restaurant to anyone coming into Anaheim. You might come to Anaheim for Disneyland but you will return just for Marri's a block away. The Food is an Experience you have to try..one bite is all it will take. The pricing which i haven't mentioned was even a bigger Surprise !! Dinners are well priced and believe me you will have leftovers. The value in honestly incomparable. Best Value, Best Service, Best Food Period.
P.s. Order the Tiramisu..made...
Read moreCame into this restaurant in a bit of a frenzied state and came in and couldn’t place my name for a meal. However, they noticed us sitting there and ask me personally for my name, which I failed to deliver until I was asked for the third time. They seated us quickly when they noticed that we were having a rough time from before we came in. The waiter served us quickly and offered to put our bags up on hooks for us, which one of our group members thought was a handshake, but we all laughed about it and everything felt good natured and very funny. To add to our blunders, one of our group members spilled water on the table, the entire glass. We got a server to help, who gave us a recently washed and still hot napkin, and brought over a second and more napkins. I didn’t feel talked down to or uncomfortable even though we were in the wrong, it felt like a good interaction between friends instead of random people, which is surprising to say because that rarely happens.
Outside of being accommodating, I loved the decor of the place, it had a great family atmosphere, and it had the fake grape vines I really like in Italian restaurants.
Being so close to Downtown Disney, this restaurant came through being less crowded and more accessible than the restaurants there were.
It was a busy night so food took a while to come out because the restaurant was mostly full, however that could’ve been that the food takes a while to get served or that it was a busy night, either or could be true I can’t be sure.
Food was also really good and very filling. We got the BBQ deluxe pizza medium and finished about two slices each so we got our money’s worth.
Overall very good experience with a slightly long wait time due to busy night and being near Disneyland. If you’re tired from Disney and want a calmer atmosphere for a meal than go to Marri’s...
Read moreThe food is solidly Italian American so you know what you're getting. I've had take out pizza from here many times, specifically the "throw your kitchen sink at it" Matterhorn pizza, and I've always enjoyed it.
This last week was my first time dining in, and the food was nothing to write home about, but it wasn't bad either. It could have used a bit more salt in pretty much all of the entrees, which is a surprising thing for me because I generally complain of over salting by American places. Even the pizza seemed a bit bland. We took my whole family, and because I was sharing I didn't really get to order the more unique stuff. We got lasagna, chicken alfredo, the appetizer platter, and more cheese sticks cause those went fast. The ranch and marinara sauces were surprisingly very well seasoned, so I'm thinking they're made from scratch. My nieces got pizza and calamari. My take away is stick to the Matterhorn if you want pizza and can tolerate the sheer amount of ingredients lol, and grab a bunch of appetizers. The apps were the best part of my night. Oh and maybe this is just a thing I've come to expect and shouldn't, but we didn't get any bread before the meal. That's something I'm used to at American and Italian American fare places, so I found this odd.
I'm more of a fan of real Italian cuisine, the seafoods, the wine cooked, the light cheese and heavy olive oil and herbs. I travel a bit and have many international friends, but sometimes you crave the comfort of that lasagna that's heavy in ricotta, meat sauce and enough melted mozzarella to block your arteries in a week. Marri's will give you that comfort you...
