I Loved the food at this place. 2 of us came in at 7:30pm with a reservation. We were seated quickly and served water out of what looked like an absolut vodka bottle. I noticed the lack of salt & pepper shakers on our table immediately. Our server Josh showed up quickly, introduced himself, and asked us about drinks. My buddy ordered a beer, and I had a Margarita mocktail. It was delicious, but there wasn’t much to it. It came in a short 6 ounce glass with salt on the rim & completely full of ice cubes so there was maybe 3 ounces of liquid in there. It was delicious but in three sips it was gone. At $17 a pop, I won’t be doing that again. We ordered the guacamole with Parmigiano Reggiano as an appetizer. It was outstanding, The guacamole could’ve used a bit more salt, but I just rolled with it since there wasn’t any salt on the table. It took around 15 minutes for our appetizer to arrive. We were halfway through the basket of chips when it did. The chips were served with some mild greenish/brown salsa that almost looked like chimichurri sauce. When I say mild, I mean, the heat level was zero. It had good flavor, though, and I asked our server Josh to bring me something hotter. He returned with some orangeish salsa that I think was a habanero blend. It was good, but not that hot. Anyway, my buddy ordered the short rib birria platter & I had 3 tacos: Short Rib, 1. Filet Mignon, & 1. Lobster. The short rib taco was astounding! My bro said the same thing about his birria platter. However, the consommé for his platter was late to the table, & the back server had to ask us which dinner was whose. That’s the mark of poor service standard. Acceptable at Denny’s but not here. We began to eat. The slow cooked short rib was melt in your mouth delicious with an explosion of flavor & just the right amount of spice. We both marveled at how good it was. The consommé had an intricate depth of flavor that hinted at cinnamon and anise. Outstanding! Absolutely amazing! Next came the filet mignon taco. O.M.G!! It had the full flavor of a prime grade aged steak, with just the right amount of char. I’ve eaten steak in top rated steakhouses that weren’t this good. I had thought that the short rib taco was going to take 1st place, but the filet edged it out by a hair. The lobster taco was up next & it was mildly disappointing. The meat lacked flavor, almost as it had been repeatedly rinsed after being cooked and shelled. It was good, not great, & like my margarita mocktail, I’ll pass on it next time. I gave this restaurant a 4 star rating on the merits of the Chefs creations, which deserve 7 stars. Otherwise I would’ve given them 3 stars. I’m in town for 3 more days & you can bet I’ll be back for more before the end...
Read moreWe arrived at 6:15 PM with a reservation to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. Right off the bat, things felt off. We were handed four kids’ menus and two adult menus, even though only two of my three daughters needed a kids’ menu. At the table, there were four plastic water cups for kids and only three for adults — it seemed like they had incorrect info set up from the start.
We ordered two appetizers: the bluefin tuna ceviche, which was just okay, and the guacamole, which was actually pretty good.
We placed our main order at 6:25 PM and specifically asked for the kids’ meals to come out first. But by 7:18 PM — almost an hour later — we still had no food. I had to get up and ask what was going on. They said they were busy, but the restaurant was half empty. Meanwhile, we watched other tables come and go. The service was honestly some of the worst I’ve ever experienced.
We ordered the short rib birria and the birria enchiladas. The short rib was dry and burnt, and the enchiladas just tasted like pepper — no real birria flavor at all. Even my daughters, who are half Mexican, said Chipotle was ten times better than this place.
Mid-meal, the waiter came over and asked if he could clear plates — while we were still eating! We had already cleared the earlier dishes ourselves because no one had come by in forever. And now they suddenly want to clear plates while we’re still using them?
After finishing, we again cleared the table ourselves just to get to my daughter’s birthday cake. They brought plates but forgot the knife — at that point, we weren’t even surprised anymore. We just wanted to finish and get out.
I stopped by the men’s bathroom before leaving and it was absolutely disgusting.
Overall, the food didn’t reflect authentic Mexican flavors at all. The service was a zero. I would never come back. I usually go to Javier’s when I’m in Orange County, but my kids wanted to try this place based on the reviews. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst dining experience I’ve had — ever.
This was also the first time in my life I didn’t leave a tip. I eat out 90% of the time and I’m usually a generous tipper, but this experience was unacceptable. I even told my wife I felt bad, but there was no way I could justify it. Honestly, I didn’t even want to pay the bill, but we ate the food — so we just chalked it up and left.
I forgot to mention when we ordered our drinks he forgot one of them we asked about it 20 minutes later and he came and put it on the front of the table real hard, I was like dang we shouldn’t have...
Read moreWell hello everyone out there. Well arriving to this restaurant the atmosphere is very fun and welcoming and festive. A very modern-day twist to a Mexican restaurant. Our waiter was great there was a screw-up on the order but I don't think it was him I think it had more to do possibly with the kitchen staff but not going to hold it against him he did a great job as being our waiter. As far as menu options very limited and don't carry your traditional fajitas. Food prices are over price for Mexican food and you're pretty much paying for the rent and atmosphere because it's near Disneyland. I ordered the carnitas and expecting it in on a platter type plate with your beans and rice but it was all in a bowl. The kitchen staff is very young so I'm assuming there is no older chefs in there with more experience in traditional Mexican food. If you're looking for traditional type Mexican food this is not the place. Like I said very limited menu and overpriced for everything. Do you want to pay ridiculous pricing for not much quantity than go waste your money. High food prices your pretty much paying for atmosphere and all the money invested in building.Probably won't come back its new I'm sure over time it will not last. Also you will have to park in the parking structure and I believe it's $4 every 15 minutes. The first second and third floor is reserved for the hotel and you have to park on the 4th floor and up. Parking was the pain in the ass! And that alone I do not want to come back again. They should validate parking for the restaurant. Shouldn't have to pay. Anyways if anybody's going to take a chance going here remember this review. I will post a picture of my carnitas in a bowl. See below. Oh I also drinks are very over price and margaritas are not served in a traditional margarita glass more like a small rocks glass. $17 for a mango margarita. I DON'T THINK SO! Money's not an option and I don't mind spending money on food when I feel I've gotten value for my money. But if you're looking for value here it's not...
