Servatii Anderson — Restaurant in Anderson Township

When my husband and I moved here from AZ, eleven years ago, we immediately started looking for a good bakery for bread. We thought that we had found one with Servatii's. All was great, for a while. A year or so ago, they started limiting baguettes to only being available on Fridays and Saturdays. Disappointing, but we could work around that. Then, they quit making them altogether. Really disappointing, but we could understand a business decision. Last week I went in to buy a loaf of sour dough and was handed a pre-sliced package of loaf shaped bread---not the crusty round loaf that I expected. I declined and bought a loaf of Italian instead. That loaf lasted three whole days before becoming very, very moldy. That has been happening a lot lately. One loaf will last a week, and another will be gone in a short number of days. We placed a large order for pickup and when we were ready to pay asked if the bread had been sliced - 5 loaves of seasonal breads that we freeze. The older woman at the register seemed annoyed that all the bread wasn’t sliced. Didn’t you ask for it to be sliced? Sorry we said, we don’t remember if we asked. She turned to the younger associate and asked, didn’t you ask if they wanted it sliced? She apologized and said she forgot. It took less than 2 minutes to slice the bread in the machine and there weren’t any customers that were held up by this! She was mean and then tried to rip us off by putting 3 pretzels in the bag and saying there were 4. She shoved the fourth pretzel in the bag like she was happy to be rid of us. Best place for Hot cross buns. Called ahead as this was last weekend to satisfy the seasonal craving for my mother's favorite Lenten treat. They held back a 6 pks for me. It waiting at the register when I walked in. These buns have a wonderful mix of nuts and candied fruit, along with a wheat type yeast rolls , brushed with egg wash and topped with a generous " cross" of Servatii's delicious butter cream icing.
