Murphys Pourhouse — Restaurant in Angels Camp

Great place and great atmosphere. For a beer place I feel like they need some lessons on pouring a beer at times. When you constantly have to keep pouring foam out of the glass to fill it up, something isn’t right. Generally it’s either the beer isn’t cold enough or you’re not pouring it correctly. The beer isn’t the coldest, however, it is cold enough for you to enjoy till the end. I’ve witnessed their pours and they always hold the glass about 10-12 inches below the spout at the initial pour and then end up dumping foam out because of this. Then as they serve you the beer it is more head than what I prefer, in beer terms that is. So instead of a 16 ounce pour you have a 14 or maybe 15 ounce pour. Additionally, not a huge deal for most, but, they’re benches are becoming very rundown and will start producing splinters for people to sit on. And, their grass could maybe use some maintenance. These are the reasons for 4 stars and not 5 if anyone...

Nice brew pub in downtown Murphys with a decent looking menu. We only ordered the beer cheese dip, which comes with your garden variety pretzels, but was still very good. I think the only way it would have been better is if it came with a couple of those big soft pretzels.

They have a good beer selection with good variety in their 16 rotating taps. I'm not sure how frequently they rotate, but it looks like they keep their website up to date with digital pour.

There is plenty of outside seating available, especially good for nice days. There is also a separate wine bar with outdoor seating, but you can't take your beer to that area or the wine into the beer area, which is kind of a bummer if someone in your party wants wine. Seating can seem limited when you arrive on a Thursday at 5:30pm. All tables were claimed but somehow got lucky after we ordered our beer. Plenty of delicious brews to try from! I noticed a lot of parents brought kiddos snacks while they enjoyed their beverages. There is a water tap near the door and it is short enough for a 6 year old child to reach and serve oneself. A lot cool merch and amazing people ready to serve you some cold delicious brew! Do yourself a favor and stop by! Kids run and played with other kids. They also have corn hole and is quite entertaining when all the kids get excited...
