McDonald's — Restaurant in Ankeny

One of the better McDonald's locations. Food is always spot on. You would like to think all McDonald's are created equal but they are not, this one is a solid example the rest should follow. Clean and very friendly staff, plenty of self serve kiosks to minimize lines during the busy hours. Large parking lot but it's a little bit of a pain to get in and out. This location does have a play place if your looking for one.

Update: Still a good location but with the remodel there are no longer self-serve drinks, ketchup or napkins. You now have to wait in line especially during busy times for the world's slowest automatic fountain drink machine hidden deep in the kitchen during this wait the fountain machine is taking all the time it needs to overfill the cup each and every time, so that when you insert your straw pop spills everywhere you don't want it. Then you have to use the single napkin you were handed to clean up the spilled pop. You want ketchup? Now you have to open 100 individual packs of ketchup and squeeze every last fraction of an ounce out of the tiny little nearly empty packets. Again, keep in mind you will now have to reuse that single napkin soaked in pop to clean up the ketchup off your hands.

Macdonald's needs to revisit this concept.

Update 9-7-2023: To complicate things even more... The lovely ladies behind the counter claim they are supposed to deliver the food to your table. I guess you're not supposed to wait for it at the counter?! After a long day sitting I have no issue waiting for my food at the counter and taking it to my table on my own. They don't need to follow me carrying the tray. I am fully capable of navigating the dining area and placing the tray on the table I prefer.

This is the very best experience I've ever had at any McDonald's. First of all it's clean and contemporary with advanced ordering complete with curbside and skip the line online ordering. Our order was taken and I was given a number to take to my table. I was confused that I was not given a drink cup for my little guy's drink. I asked a helpful woman how it all worked and she kindly offered that I go find a table and his drink would find us. Wow, they delivered his soda right after we seated ourselves in the area with the play zone! Ok now this was the entire reason we decided to dine in. My kiddo had been asking for the longest time to eat inside and I usually have a reason not to besides my just lack of desire to hear screaming kids run all over the place, but today I said yes. I said yes despite my phone having only 8% and I knew my lunch date would be abandoning me instantaneously and that I wasn't actually eating other than one of the chocolate chip cookies we got, I said yes. Max ditched me right away, but only after we explored all of the awesomeness of this room. There was an area that displayed many different activity booklets and crayons. Beside them were pop-out sheets that folded into a cute cartoon person on a scooter and one a dragonfly mobile of sorts. So cool! The food came swiftly and my kiddo played his heart out making friends in the large play zone climbing and sliding and avoiding the "hot lava" floor with his new besties. The phone died but I hadn't noticed. I was busy doing the pop out activity and enjoying seeing my son have so much fun. Eventually we had to go and he gave fist pumps to his pals (8 of them and each twice and some of them even hugs 🤗) and he ate his cold Happy Meal very happily in the car. Amazing. Today I visited the Ankeny McDonald's on Delaware Avenue. The man taking my order was very professional and friendly and even though his headset went out mid conversation he repeated my order to me. He had it right except for he missed my large dr. pepper no ice and my large fry , I had to add on the large fry and large dr. Pepper with no ice at the window before he took my money and told me he was sorry about the miscommunication no big deal.Until I got my order from an extremely rude older lady at the second window. She handed me a med.drink,no problem I simply told her it was SUPPOSED TO BE A LARGE dr.pepper with no ice . Simply be doing the drink which honestly you said well that's not what you were ordered and shoved the medium drink at me. Because she was so aggressive and I said but man this is supposed to be a large and I don't think you even got the order right at all because this is a Diet Coke. She handed me my food and said well that's not what you order order what you want next time and slam the door in my face. I normally would just drive away but I was infuriated by how rude she was as I drove around supposed to be a very nice time and again he apologized and said he had asked when I push the medium button and he said it was his fault that her brain is most certainly was not that young man he was extremely professional and went and got my correct drink.
