Arrived about 1030, said opened at 10 but it was very dark looking and the open sign was not lit up; in fact there was another vehicle waiting when i arrived, I think they also thought it was closed. I ordered the original loose meat sandwich add cheese, bowl of chili with cheese, and an unsweetened tea. I asked for lots of extra crackers for my chili. The young man that took my order was plenty friendly, patient, and helpful; this was my first time eating at this restaurant. The sandwich was described to me as kind of a sloppy Joe but with they're own seasoning, not really a sauce. I could not taste any seasoning on the sandwich, the most bland sandwich I have ever had. I actually eliminated the bun and just dumped the seemingly unseasoned ground chuck into my chili. The chili was tasty, extremely thick, with a lot of ingredients. Problem there was the crackers; I received three (3) with my meal. After eating the those I went to the counter asking for more crackers and was given another three by the older blond lady in charge of the place. After eating those, I still had chili left so I once again went to the counter for more crackers. The lady had an irritated look on her face and gave me an additional 5 crackers. After eating those I still had a little chili left but was over the stinginess of the lady in charge. While I ate the lady stared at me, made me feel rushed even tho I was the only customer in there. Also she was showing her two employees a change on the menu and she was rude and degrading to them, and plenty loud doing it. That is a horrible business practice, not to mention a pretty bad human practice. This is the main reason I am reviewing this restaurant and giving it a poor rating. I would not recommend and will not return.
Edit: Apparently the owner doesn't take constructive criticism very well. She rudely responded to my review and after looking at others, it seems she is very bitter and it reads to be that if you don't care for the food or service than it is YOUR fault, not the owners. I did not see one response by the owner where she took responsibility for the poor food or service, always someone elses fault....usually the customer. She responded to most reviews with 3 stars or fewer, usually in a rude and insulting manner. I'm not sure she understands that from the angle of the business it Should be all about the customer and from the customers angle it is all about the food and service; so in this setting it kinda is all about me. What a dolt. Thankfully I took a screenshot of the original owner response because it has been totally...
Read moreWe were driving home on Labor Day and I decided to take my girlfriend here. Since it was a holiday while we were stopped at a gas station I checked their Google maps page for hours, then I went to their own website and checked, then I even opened the online ordering on their website and was able to put in an order, so needless to say all signs pointed to them being open. We made a detour off of our route and headed over to the restaurant only to find it dark and locked up upon arrival. In the five minutes that we were in the parking lot at least a dozen other people came by to check it out too. I filled out the contact form on their website informing them that it is pure laziness on management's part to not at least update the hours on their own website and disable the online ordering system. They replied to my email saying that they are not lazy and that the website doesn't reflect all holidays and they "can't" disable the online ordering system outside of hours they are open. Both of these are really poor excuses. Updating the hours on a website is not difficult, updating hours on your Google business listing isn't either for that matter, and if they bought an online ordering system with that kind of limitation they got...
Read moreStopped by Maid-Rite, Ankeny, for what we thought would be a nice quick lunch and it was anything but that. My friends lunch was delivered within minutes but apparently because I ordered onion rings, my took between 15-20 minutes longer. The reason I was given, by the manager, was because they hand make them! Ive made onion ring before so not sure why it took so long. My friend had finished her lunch while I was still waiting so I asked that mine be packed up to go. By the time I got back to DSM, the bun on my maid-rite was so soggy it wasn't edible and to add insult to injury, the onion rings that I waited so long for we're so salty I couldn't even eat them! That was $11.00 down the drain! I'm not sure what is going on with establishment but the last two times I've been here, the place could use some cleaning. The last time my shoes almost came off me feet since the floor was so sticky and this time the drink station was a nasty mess and looked like it had not been wiped down for some time. I did bring this to the attention of a server who merely looked at it and picked up a couple of straw paper. This is my last time going to this...
