So, Condado Tacos was a cool experience. I wouldn't call it mexican because it's anything but authentic, so we will call it a fusion cuisine establishment. Everything is pretty much a la cart, but don't let that scare you because the prices are awesome. They have pre-made/paired tacos that are on a recommended menu or you can make your own, which I like.
The menu says the tacos are street tacos, but they are definitely a lot larger than traditional street tacos and they pile the fillings in, so don't worry about not getting your fill. The 2 tacos I had were so filling that I had the food sweats by the time I made it through the second. The protien fillings are pretty standard: chicken, steak, pulled pork and brisket. Tofu, beans or Mushrooms for all my veg/vegan eaters! As a matter of fact, the options for veg/vegan are pretty awesome! The options don't feel like the forgotten and thrown in there part of the menu. After picking your proteins, the toppings are where things can spiral out if control simply because they have soooo many to choose from by way of toppings, sauces and salsas! You can pick 2-3 proteins if you want and then unlimited toppings, although in every category the have a recommended amount so that your taco doesn't get too crazy even for your own taste buds. If you want a lot because you are as undecided when it comes to food as I am, the build your own nacho is probably the way to go...wish I had thought of that! Next time!
A lot of items on their menu contains some level of spice, so be warned and if you are a beans and rice lover, their cilantro lime rice and black beans will have you moaning in pleasure with every bite. I adore a good order of chips, salsa and guacamole, so I was super excited that they had a salsa/guacamole flight (triple tasting) that was big enough to share between four people (or keep to yourself...depending if your in the sharing mood). I loved how fresh the chips were. They were hot and could tell that they cut the corn tortillas and fry them fresh with every order. We got the guacamole with mango habanero salsa on top (was a seasonal special and quite spicy , the street corn salsa (the table favorite) and the salsa Roja (basic red tomato salsa with a kick).
In all it was a great experience. The 4 and not five stars would be from things like having to send back our water glasses and silverware because there was dried food on them. I know it can get busy, but gotta be careful with those types of things and the women's bathroom stayed a mess even after telling them. We were there for about 2 hours and it didn't get cleaned. The staff was great though. It was super busy because it is located in college town (go blue!), but still good service and fun. I will definitely be going back and...
Read moreI stopped into Condado's recently after a game and was looking for a good, reasonably priced meal. I’ll note off the bat that to me there are only two critical aspects I look for with the dining experience: food and service. I’ve lived in the area for years at this point so I roughly know what to expect with regards to quality and pricing. We started off easily enough with a street corn guacamole dip and some drinks. We ordered it without cheese and received the dip with cheese, but ended up just eating around the cheese. We couldn’t really get a hold of our waiter to point out the mistake, another server brought our food to our table and our waiter was bouncing around the entire restaurant. For a full dip you should expect about a cup or so of a serving. The chips were quite good and crunchy and the dip was good, but not mindblowing. After the dip we moved onto the tacos, which I’ve heard a lot of good things about. I went with a tequila lime taco with fajita veggies, tomato, lettuce, corn salsa, and habanero-mango sauce, costing about $5 a piece. The biggest gripe with the taco offering is the lack of portion size, and the inadequate mixing of the hot and cold elements. Now I’ve had a lot of tacos in my life and made even more, but these tacos were fundamentally bland, being overly sweet. There were maybe two small pieces of steak in each taco. Each taco was soggy and cold, filled with too much lettuce and tomato. Whatever spice was supposed to be there was nonexistent. The habanero supplier must have taken a vacation. Additionally, I feel like it goes without saying that fajita veggies are supposed to be warm, not cold. While other reviewers have noted that Condado’s is a chain, the fundamental basics of cooking a taco are simple and should be consistent, down to a science. Ratios were all over the place. Service was poor and sloppy, the table not even being cleaned before we were seated, not being able to get a single refill on a watered down $4 horchata, and taking thirty minutes to make five tacos for our entire table. I’ve eaten at a lot of stellar mexican restaurants, but unless you want to pay too much for fairly mediocre food, I do not recommend...
Read moreWe were a group of 8 who went at Friday at 7pm. We had heard good things about this place and had high hopes but, was throughly disappointed.
The wait time was a nominal 5min and the server wasn't overly enthusiastic but courteous.
The first batch of chips was warm and tasted good and especially the dips we got although the guacamole felt a bit too salty. The second batch of chips was cold and way worse than the former. Drinks felt a bit expensive given the quality and quantity but was decent.
The worst part was the tacos. All the tacos we ordered came cold. We hesitated but reported and they took all the tacos back and brought it back after supposedly reheating. They were still awfully cold and we reported to the manager again.
The third time it came back warm but a soggy at the base most likely from microwaving it. It seemed futile to report anymore so we finished as much of our food as we could as we didn't want to waste so much food even though it was bland and cold. We got our checks and left after that.
Overall, we spent $250+ on bad (cold) food. Although the servers were polite but, ignorant. Needless to say we will not be visiting again and will advise others accordingly. Probably the WORST experience in...
