Nice open park area surrounded by architecturally interesting buildings. It is a long open space, about two and a half city blocks long by a third of a city block wide that runs from the University of Michigan graduate School auditorium to the graduate library. It is intersected by a city street and opens out to a park area that is in the middle of the university's main campus. It is surrounded by school buildings of various eras from the recent decades and going back to the late 1800s. There is a clock tower, large fountain, trees, open lawn space, and lots of open paved area for festivals. The large buildings at both ends of the commons both have large, wide steps leading to their main entrances. It's a very pretty area and a nice place to walk.
