My wife were in town to visit our daughter for parents weekend and stopped by Friday night, September 23rd. I'm 60 years old and my wife is 54. We left our daughter as she went to hang out with her friends at about 10:00pm. We decided we wanted to hit the town and our daughter recommended Nightcap. We were greeted by a slouched over, barely coherent bouncer who said we couldn't go into the bar since my wife didn't have an ID. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager came out and was extremely rude. She said the owner has a strict ID policy in which 100% of the patrons need to show ID. I asked why and she said "because it is a Michigan State law to ID everyone before entering a bar". I corrected her to say that the law actually states that it is illegal to serve alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. She then said "well this is the law at our bar". I asked her if my wife looked under 21 years of age. She rolled her eyes and gave us an awful look like we're too old and not cool enough to enter. We think we're pretty hip parents and were so shocked that this type of behavior could occur in Ann Arbor.
We get the importance of enforcing the drinking age, but telling us to leave because my 54 year old wife doesn't have an ID was ridiculous.
Nightcap needs to see the forrest through the trees. You discriminated against UM parents just trying to enjoy...
Read moreI had one of the worst bar experiences here. Not only did we find serious hygiene issues, but the staff’s attitude was shockingly rude.
We first ordered two drinks in the evening. After finishing our first cocktail, I noticed a bug inside the ice cube. I took a photo and poured it out to double-check. Right then, the waitress brought my second drink (3rd dry in this order). She mentioned she could make another one but never once apologized.
Later, to my disbelief, we found the same issue in the second drink — another bug. When I pointed this out, instead of acknowledging the problem, the waitress started accusing me of “yelling” at her and claimed she never even saw the bug in the first glass. She insisted that their bar was “super clean” and denied responsibility.
Only after I demanded at least a refund did she reluctantly say she would refund and felt apologetic for this, in the most insincere way possible, even telling us “the door’s open, you can leave.”
This is unacceptable — two contaminated drinks in a row, zero accountability, and a complete lack of respect for customers. I will never come back, and I strongly advise others to think twice...

Everything from the room to the aesthetic values of the interior is clean and well presented. It falsely presents itself as "classy" and "out-of-your-league," but the illusion is quickly diluted by the friendly staff that they have working here.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that this place is a speakeasy, and I would more closely associate it with a fancier lounge bar. On the inside, it is extremely clean. The aforementioned staff weren't in your face, but also provided a very efficient and well mannered service.
I did not have a chance to try their food, but their prices for food were greater in comparison to their drinks. I had only paid maybe $15 for a Pina Colada, but it was definitely enough to share with another individual.
I would give Nightcap a visit if your looking to end a date night, or a night on the...
