My wife and I used to eat at Village Kitchen several times a month since it was down the street from our apartment. The food was okay, nothing amazing but not terrible either. However our main complaint is the service.
The waitresses often seem overwhelmed and there was one meal in particular that stood out with really poor service from our waitress. To start we waited patiently to order drinks or food and she never came. Eventually she came over and opened up her notepad and asked what we would like. As soon as we started to speak she said sorry and closed her notepad and walked away. She went to the kitchen, got food, brought it to another table. Then took an order from another table. This persisted through out the meal and we were not very happy but still returned for future visits.
Our last and final visit to Village Kitchen we entered the restaurant and were the only people waiting. We were told it'd be about 10 minutes, we had no problem waiting. Well 10 minutes go by and we see a booth open up and being cleaned, great! Well as soon as it's ready a family of our come in and the hostess asks us to step aside and seat the family of four immediately in the booth. With a restaurant full of booths why didn't they have to wait? Well we wait another 5 minutes and guess where we're seated? You guessed it, a booth. We were pretty angry and considered leaving but decided lets just eat since we're here. At the end of the meal I wanted to speak to the manager who always runs the cash register about what happened. Well when we get up there she's on the phone, doesn't even make eye contact or speak with us, just grabs my cash and gives me change. Well after that we decided we would...
Read moreWhen you first walk in the place screams diner but the nickel and diming takes the cozy feeling right back and stomps it to the ground. I simply wanted to take away items from my meal and that somehow was going to cost more...so I just ate around what I couldn’t eat. I also noticed that they place jelly on your plate and save what doesn’t get used. I asked the waitress to make sure I didn’t have packets on my plate because I would not use them and didn’t like the idea of a jelly packet that could have been on hundreds of plates of food to be wedged in between my eggs and the bacon I didn’t want. When I finally finished eating my food after never seeing my server since she dropped off my food, dropped the check, and rushed off, I had questions about my check which were never answered. I am fairly certain she gave me the wrong check and I was overcharged but no one seemed to care about my experience. I’m really sad that this place isn’t better because it would have been just a short jog away from my gym and would have been super convenient. So much for hoping for an easy place to grab a couple of...
Read moreMediocre food, difficult wait staff. I ordered an eggs Benedict breakfast (#3) and asked for no ham (vegetarian). Asked for toast instead of an English muffin. The waitress looked at me like I was an idiot. She took my order, went back to the kitchen and came back to tell me “we’ll have to work something else out, because I can’t make changes to the menu”. I laughed because I thought she was joking. After all, I had only asked for an omission of meat and a change of an English muffin to toast. Didn’t ask for a discount since I was now eating cheaper without meat. No where on the menu does it say no substitutions. It was a weekday at 11am. Not breakfast rush and not lunch rush. This is a step above a diner - not fine dining. So instead of a full breakfast that will hold me through the day, I ended up with two eggs and toast, which I could have made at home for free. I don’t come here often, but I for sure won’t be back due to this ridiculous...
