Hometown Desserts — Restaurant in Anna Maria island

Cindy's desserts are amazing, and the shop is wonderful, down to the little touches (like candles for surfers). The iced coffee is the best on island, way better than That-Chain-I-Won't-Mention. Iced teas are served sweet OR un-sweet, which helps those of us who cannot understand why you would pre-sweeten iced tea in the first place. But it's justly successful because of the desserts. If you've never been here, the key lime coconut cake is locally famous, and outstanding. Not sticky sweet, not too much of anything, just enough. Cupcakes are wonderful; one year we asked her to make a special batch for a young relative with allergies, celebrating her tenth birthday - they were allergy-free, and the icing spelled out the little girl's name, cupcake by cupcake, which thrilled her beyond words. The scones are... well, they're not English scones, they're a bit softer, and they are fantastic. Special family favorite are the cranberry. Not too sweet. The brownies are a favorite with our younger relatives, though I admit they're too chocolate for me; I prefer a bit of the "cakiness". (Though truth be told, having been raised on Betty Crocker and Duncan Hines brownie mixes, that could be the reason.) The store has expanded these past few years, with nice indoor and outdoor seating, friendly staff (I suspect the staffer criticized in one of the reviews below is long gone), and a second location in Bradenton. If you're in the area of Pine Avenue, though, it's a great place to stop for coffee and sweets. OH. And the cookies. Oh oh oh... Last note. There's a negative review from someone called "Piotr" I think, that Google has translated in part as "Generally speaking on bezrybiu and cancer fish". I'm not sure what that means, but I do wish Google Maps would note things like that and take them down, or...

We love the peanut butter pie. Our favourite. Be good to offer one with oreo crust. Next best is the orange cake. It is awesome! The chocolate is also awesome and so is the strawberry. However the lemon is flavourless. Customer service could improve...the young girl serving us was always in a hurry, and one time refused to accommodate us with orange cake slices even though there were orange cakes in the fridge that could have been sliced up. It was 2 in the afternoon, so still a lot of time to sell more orange cake slices the rest of the day. A big however.....coffee is Kureg but u r charged barista pricing!!! Signifying this would b upfront as I find it deceiving...
