Yesterday I purchased a box of what was supposed to be mung bean pastry, recommended directly by the lady at the counter of their little store located inside the Global Food Asian market. Had one bite of it and could not even finish the bite - it was awfully sweet, tasted just like pure sugar with no sight of mungbean whatsoever. My Dad tried a bite and concluded the same. Both of us couldn't even finish half a bite size cookie/pastry let alone the whole box of probably a dozen. We both love sweets but this is overboard. It was not just a few bucks, 10 dollars total. Made a trip back to the store the next day to return the box but another cashier refused to refund me, saying she can't resell this anymore, well of course she should never be reselling opened returned packages, or just straight low quality food all in all. She told me it's not possible to return money to my credit card, that's fine I was OK with cash back but she kept saying no she could not refund me anything. I told her to tell the store owner about the poor quality food and to change the recipe because it was straight up inedible. I even asked her to take a bite and tell me if she could finish one of the cookies. She refused. I left the food at the counter and took off, they would rather watch me leave with a bad taste, having to go through the dispute with my credit card company, than just take out $10 from the register to make amend. I might have liked other bakery items there before and might have given it another try next time if they would just take my criticism but too bad, inediquate customer service and no feedback appreciation cost them to lose a customer. Will never return or recommend...
Read moreFirst and last time going here. As you walk in, it smells amazing but since I was the only customer in the establishment, I thought it was odd that no one greeted me when I entered. Nonetheless, the smells drew me into selecting a few bakery treats.
Just as I was heading to the checkout counter, I saw a cockroach crawling near the food items. I was just about to take a picture of it and then I saw one of the ladies from behind the counter come behind me pretending like she was taking inventory of everything. Unfortunately, because of my race, I am very familiar with this move by establishments: simply go behind the person and fake-scribble things down and act like you’re busy working so that they don’t think it’s weird that you’re following them.
In any event I went to the checkout and asked for a hazelnut coffee (which was my original reason for visiting) and they didn’t have it, so I had to settle for a regular. I had to put so much sugar in it to make it drinkable.
My recommendation to this bakery: fix your pest problem (since I see others have mentioned this, as well).
For everyone else: avoid,...
Read moreThis is a small mom-and-pop shop and still competes with name brand bakeries nearby. To me, this bakery is a passage to my good old memory back in South Korea. From coffee to their pastries, I feel like I return back to late 80's or 90's in South Korea. That might be why you can see many elder Korean customers come and enjoy this bakery cakes and pastries (and coffee). As you can tell by the bakery's exterior and interior, they are aging together with the owner. If you ask, the owner can tell you his life journey about how he ended up doing bakery business. He is very proud of what he makes / bakes for his customers, and I never doubted that. Even for a small moment with the owner, I learned a few things about life. He mentioned he will retire in a few years. Before that time comes, I will try to visit this bakery as many times as possible.
I highly recommend this place unless you are looking for a very trendy Korean bakery that you can easily find many of them in Annandale area. This is the place, you can't easily find in US. Try once and you will...
